YYZumbi
I am getting more and more jealous on all the great guitar players out there. It seems to be such a nice feeling to play guitar. So now Im wondering how do I learn to play real music on guitar the fastest/easiest way with no teacher?

treeduck
Just learn and practice, there's no quick way of doing it. Anything you don't learn in the beginning you'll only have to learn later and it'll end up taking longer.
Ancient Ways
YouTube is full of free lessons. Some of it will be over your head but most videos are pretty clear on where to put your fingers. Wish I had this when I started.
Bigbobby10
Unfortunately there is no quick way, but getting be a trainer really helped me when I wasn learning, it gave me a sense of direction. They aren't cheap though, so if you don't want to pay the money teaching yourself on YouTube is also very good option

PolarizeMe
Playing music/an instrument is never easy. Making your own music is even more difficult. Simply put the idea of learning guitar the fastest/easiest way is false mythology...unless you think you're Robert Johnson that you'd sell your soul to the devil in exchange of being the next shred wanker. There's great videos on YouTube that'll aid you, but that's all it is, an aid to help you learn...this ain't an overnight thing. There's an app called Yousician that's a great tool to help you learn and play in a way that's easy to understand but again, it's only an aid to help you learn. Keep playing, learn the basics, get a feel of the instrument first. If you wanna learn complex parts, I'd take it apart by section and play it slowly until you feel like you're able to play it slow fluently, and then play it slightly faster and continue to up the tempo gradually until you're fluid at playing it at normal tempo and keep playing some more. There's a lot of muscle memory and listening involved with playing any kind of instrument.

J2112YYZ
If you're looking to play stuff at the same level as Rush or a band like that, there is no fast way. Have you played any instruments before? Already having some experience would help. If not, there is no guarantee that you will take to playing and learn how to do it. You may pick up the guitar and see you have no feel for it. Just because you're a big music fan doesn't mean you have the music in you. So don't get your hopes up too high in case playing isn't your thing. Edited March 28, 2017 by J2112YYZ
thirteen
I am getting more and more jealous on all the great guitar players out there. What are you jealous of?Our good looks? The hordes of women that surround us? Despite the YouTube guitarist phenomenon, playing guitar is not a race or a competition. Honestly, find a teacher. Even if it's one lesson a month. That lesson, with someone giving real-time critique/feedback is invaluable. And (if it concerns you) the learning curve is much steeper than learning by yourself. You can also use lessons/exercises from sites like Guitar World and Premier Guitar to supplement your learning.
EagleMoon
You can learn a heck of a lot more from a teacher than you can off of something like YouTube or teaching yourself. The discipline of having to learn something for lessons will really make you keep up with it.

JohnnyBlaze
First, learning anything should be a never ending process. It's not always easy and certainly never fast. Second, I don't believe in the "playing isn't my/your thing" mentality since it seems to put the prospective learner in the mindset of giving up. Third, if you can't accept the first and second points then you might as well sell the guitars now.

I agree with some of what has been said above and disagree with some of it as well. If money is an issue lessons are probably out. Forget about learning rush songs for now. The number one thing you need to do is learn how to tune the instruments properly. Then you need to learn what your capable of learning not what you are most interested in. vaportrailer
Learn bar (or Barre) chords. Easy.Learn a pentatonic minor scale (5 notes). Easy.Move this sh!t around. You can now play many, many things. It's also important to train your ear, not just your fingers. Once you have the basics, try to play along with some old blues. Blues is the foundation of basic rock music. Go there and learn. And get yourself a teacher as a reward for getting a job. Oh yeah: be patient. It's worth it. You said you don't have a job right now, so just dedicate all the free time to trying to learn to play the best you can. This will not be a fast process though. I'm sure looking up training videos will help to some extent. But you should take lessons in person with a teacher. That way you will have an idea of what you're playing is right or makes any sense. Youtube videos aren't gonna give you that instant feedback if you get or don't get right what they're asking you to play. Taking lessons will at least have a person there to help you.
