Typical Blaze gathering. Everything isn't on the table but the main dishes are (pic quality isn't so good, taken a few years ago):

BigDaddyBlaze carves up the lechon:

Meanwhile, the grill goes on outside:

Some fish for you Steve Smith!:

I want to go to there...

So do I!!!! Most of the parties are at the eldest bro's crib. He's grilling outside AND deep frying the egg rolls, another bro is also in the backyard on another grill cooking up beef and shrimp skewers, eldest bro's wife (from the Philippines) is in the kitchen making pancit (pan fried noodles) and another dish, & BigDaddyBlaze takes care of the lechon and other chef like stuff. I'm usually on the screened patio food sampling & drinking beer and laughing and talking crap with my wife and other brothers. It's pretty much paradise.

When you get there we will meet up for a beer and argument about Rush' best album !!

Smitty :P

Well, I'll hopefully be "there" this November for mum's birthday bash. :blaze:

I've never argued with a Rush fan (in person) about anything Rush related.

Yeah I know.

If you like food you'd love a Blaze gathering. A while back, a family friend was hovering around BigDaddyBlaze as he was carving up the lechon (roast pork). BigDaddy handed him a slice of the crunchy pork skin. The dude ate it and goes "Oh my god. That's like candy! I can be here all day!" BigDaddy laughed and said, "You ARE here all day! There's plenty of food!"

I think the word "food coma" originated at one of the Blaze family gatherings.

Us Brits call crunchy Pork skin "Cracknel" and we always used to ask for it while mum was cooking the pork roast when we were kids XXX

Sounds like a great time to me Johnny ;)

No big deal. I've stated in various threads elsewhere that i grew up in Florida. I'm not there now.

Without going into too much detail, all of the Blaze bros (I'm the youngest) were born stateside. My parents are from the Philippines.

Bonus pic:

Mrs.JohnnyBlaze (before she became so) with my youngest niece (now nowhere near that small & young).

Before the party gets going the dishes are laid out until there's no more space on the table. Here, you can see there's still plenty of room for more FOOD!

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c107/andrewq2112/IMG_3761.jpg

I gotta say, I like salad just fine but salad doesn't get much loving at a Blaze gathering when these other "heavy hitter" dishes are sharing the table. Also, I don't see the beef and shrimp skewers or barbecue chicken on the table yet! This pic was probably taken about 10-15 minutes before show time.

Probably. There's no more room on my plate for that!

And I just remembered, one of our close family friend's wife is from Thailand so she always brings some kind of curry to the table. Good stuff too! Crazy to think that they've been coming to the gatherings (birthdays, Christmas', Thanksgivings) for nearly 20 years!

How about some Seoul food?

These pork dumplings were crazy tasty! I could've dunked my entire head in that soup too.

Yep, my old peanut butter sandwich is going to be delicious and satisfying after seeing this pic...[sounds of a grown man weeping]

Thanks JB!

There's a lot of great and distinct East Asian food out there.

I'm biased as my parents are from the Philippines. So that gets my pick. A typical Blaze family Thanksgiving or Christmas has all the traditional North American dishes + Philippine dishes such as lechon (roast pork), lumpia (egg rolls), pancit (pan fried noodles mixed with meats, shrimp, & veggies), and a few others & some beef and or shrimp shish kabob for good measure!

Since I live in Japan, I've grown to love many of the dishes here. Sushi is good but it doesn't come close to being my favorite J-dish. That would probably be nikujaga: http://en.m.wikipedi...g/wiki/Nikujaga

(I just had some for lunch matter of fact.)

Then there's Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Thai food that I'll never turn down if someone asks me. Oh, and Mongolian barbecue?! I'll kill that too! :blaze:

So what do you TRF eaters have to say about East Asian food? :hail:

Filipino or Phillipine food is my favorite. I get pumped when I get invited over for a party, especially a boodle fight. There is also filipino restaurant dangersously close to my work....

Thai is a close 2nd for me

Japanese food is some of the best in my opinion, I swear I am a giant fan of Yakitori, but I am a huge addict of Miso Soup.

Miso ramen is stupidly good. White miso ramen is ever stupidlier gooder.

Now you got me craving octopus on a stick with hot mustard and a carton of coffee and some temple sake and Buddha head cakes and and and...

Btw, welcome to the forum Thebuckeye2112! Hope you have a good time here!
