Thank Goodness Major League Baseball is back!

Spring Training is here so let's start a new thread!!!

My Oakland A's will lose 100 games this season but I still bought half a season!

Our old cheap own Lew Wolff is OUT!

Our new leadership is scouting out three new sites in Oakland to build a new ballpark!

I had to give in and buy my season tickets! If they announce a new ballpark this summer you will need to be a season ticket holder to get your seats in the new stadium!!

My A's suck but they are heading in the right direction!!!!

In reality I think the Red Sox will play the Cubs in the World Series!

Cheers!

I feel very fortunate to kid right in the middle of a lot of the action every March. Still haven't targeted any specific games to go to. I usually just check out any interesting game that is being played nearby and not necessarily teams I like. I live very close to where the Yankees train but I usually go to Dunedin for blue jays games or Lakeland for tigers games as they both have great crowds. I miss the good ole days of cardinals in st Petersburg and reds in Tampa or plant city.

I miss baseball so much. I've been a fan since I was about 5 because that was the only sport my father cared about. Then my Dodgers moved to California and I almost gave up. Never really did and my first husband was a big fan and we would drive from Sarasota to Atlanta for Braves games. I reluctantly became a Yankees fan because I'm a New Yorker and the Mets were not me. Now there is practically no baseball in Australia (I'm sure someone will pop up with some league that plays in Sydney or Queensland). I try to travel to the States during playoffs and World Series. I miss the rhythm and sounds of a game. Sigh.

Feeling good about the Yankees this year, but there are a ton of question marks. Can Gary Sanchez continue to produce at an elite level (though 70 home runs is unreasonable to expect, maybe 30-35?) Will Greg Bird rebound from his injury to be an offensive force in the power department? How will the rotation fare, with two open spots behind Masahiro Tanaka, CC Sabathia, and Michael Pineda? Can Luis Severino finally prove himself to be a solid starter? Will Aaron Judge make the right adjustments to become a productive member of the lineup and not strike out half the time?

Long story short, the Bombers might win 95 games, or they might win 75 games. It's a transitional year, with many younger players coming in and top prospects like Clint Frazier and James Kaprielian knocking on the door to the big leagues. It's going to be exciting! I don't expect them to win the World Series or anything, but this team might surprise us. :)

Yuck! The Yank-Me's! Are you happy you have Chapman back for five years???????

The Cubbies wore out his golden arm.

Still a stud though.

Good luck!

GO A'S!

The Reno Aces fire up in April. I really love minor league ball, and now that I'm retired I'll be able to catch more games...with the Lad in tow. As for MLB, call me in August. Go Dodgers (NL) and A's (AL)!

Yes, I'm happy we've got him back, but I don't know if he'll be able to maintain 100+ MPH fastballs for five years. :|

Always gotta love start of a new Pirates season! (Even when they are in the same division as the Cardinals and Cubs . . ) I'm glad they kept McCutchen, after not getting a desired trade for him in the off season. His move to right field puts a strong Marte in center. Pitching remains iffy (as always) with the Pirates looking at Cole as a big starter ( sigh) but more to like in Nova and Taillon, two pitchers that came in near the end of last summer. I'm still missing Mark Melancon as closer, who wouldn't ??! :D It was always such a treat to see him come in and secure a win.

Copypasta-ing this from another thread.

Predict the standings! (I'm not gonna try and predict W-L records)

National League

East

Nationals

Mets

Braves

Phillies

Marlins

Expecting Nats and Mets to contend, Braves and Phillies to start turning things around, maybe Braves hit .500, then Marlins in the shitter this year. Bad ownership will continue to be bad. I'm so sorry, Ichiro.

Central

Cubs

Cardinals

Brewers

Pirates

Reds

Cubs will continue to kick ass and will do so for at least the next few years. Cardinals will continue dealing with some retooling, aging veterans, and that never-ending farm system, but if they make a Wild Card I won't be surprised. Brewers will still not be good, but I don't think the Pirates will be either, so I can see one of them making .500 and the other slipping. McCutchen is likely on his way out of Pittsburgh. Reds will continue the rebuild. This is gonna be a really top heavy division with the Cubs and Cardinals.

West

Dodgers

Giants

Rockies

Diamondbacks

Padres

Same story every year. Dodgers and Giants duke it out, Rockies keep their head above the water for a time with all the games they're gonna win in April and May, then fall behind somewhere around .500 or slightly worse. Diamondbacks have a lot of damage to deal with after Dave Stewart wrecked the franchise. Padres will be the worst team in the NL unless the Reds really suck.

Softball League

East

Red Sox

Yankees

Orioles

Blue Jays

Rays

Red Sox should be very strong and will try to make up for getting stomped in the ALDS, but the Yankees are on the rise. Should be one of those rare years in recent times where that rivalry is actually worth talking about and ESPN isn't entirely a sack of shit. Orioles and Blue Jays will hang in there but someone's gonna have to give. Rays will continue to be bad. This division's standings are probably the hardest for me to guess.

Central

Indians

Tigers

Royals

Twins

White Sox

Probably a top heavy division because the Twins will still be bad and the White Sox need to figure things out. Indians will still be really strong, Tigers will heat up, Royals will be somewhere in the middle.

West

Mariners

Rangers

Astros

A's

Angels

My one "WTF" guess goes to Mariners taking the West. I'll give that one a shot. Rangers will be alright, Astros will continue to confuse me, and the A's and Angels will still be bad.

Anybody here do Fantasy baseball?

I honestly can't be bothered. There's too much stats in it, and I hate all of the sabermetrics discussions surrounding the sport. Sure they might have value but it takes away the casualness about watching the game every single day for 6 months for me. I keep an eye on the batting averages, the HR counts, and some defensive stats but that's about it for me.

Plus I would end up picking all Cubs + Mike Trout and where's the fun in that?

I had Bryant last year. Love him! He could go number one this year! I think Trout's value is going to drop. Too many K's. Also I think Harper will slip down too.

Nice rip on the American League! I love the DH! I can't believe the A's are above the Angels. The A's will lose 100 games.

28 years? That's incredible!!!!

That's about as rare as the Oakland Athletics winning a World Series any time soon!!!

Ruh-roh. Jung-Ho Kang can't play for the Pirates if he can't get in the country. :(

http://www.post-gaze...es/201703240183

Edited to add: News story was that Kang was denied a US visa due to a DUI conviction in Korea this winter. However, I was just watching the Pirates game against Tampa and they announced that that was a false rumor from an unnamed Korean news source. Kang is still in Korea but will report when his court hearing for the DUI is over. He'll then have to be in the minors awhile for conditioning. That's not much better . . . :(
