Prog period by FAR. It's so far above the rest you can barely see it in the atmosphere. Down a bit closer to earth would be The early period, synth, later period and post.

If it were A Farewell To Kings and Hemispheres, I would have gone with the prog era, but I went with the early hard rock years due to the fact that I like Fly By Night and Caress better that Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures

I kinda lost touch after kings/hemi and had to do plenty of backtracking since ... it was good to see them live and see them get a little love.

There are plenty of sweet spots since I fell off the wagon. I fall in and out of love with their albums from time to time. That being said ... they put out enough quality product in all eras to keep my attention.

There least favorite tracks/ albums and the most favorite.

There are excellent brilliant masterpieces, great tunes and not so good tracks.

**I Love All 'Eras' Equally, since Debut until Clockwork Angels.**

All Rush is RUSH!

Voted for Prog era for the choices given. But my favorite era is COS-2112-AFTK-Hem. (Lucas and I must share brain cells) Edited by apetersvt

AFTK through MP is my fav of the given options, though Hems falls almost squarely in the middle of my album rankings. Then there would be Signals through HYF, two of those being some of my absolute favs, one being average, and one being sub-par. The other three are a lot more equal, though I have to give huge nods to the early period for 2112 and the latert period for CA, but since early also has CoS, that probably edges out the other two. Then CA is the qualifier for putting later ahead of post-synth, though I'm also a big fan of Presto. CP I've grown to like more but not significantly. RTB still sucks (Rushitively speaking). T4E is great fun but isn't very memorable and a little generic. VT is great if your in the mood for excellent, noisy monotony. And if you can get past the heavy handedness of S&A it's pretty average.

Prog era. That said, I do like all of the eras and there are highlights from each. "No particular favorite but I like some more than others" was very tempting way to express my liking of all eras, but clearly the prog run is my favorite. Edited by cygnify

All periods that I listed are represented by four studio albums so this is fair. The one caveat would be that the feedback album is made up of songs previously recorded by other bands so we may or may not consider that as being a disadvantage for the later period. However, the later period does make up for it in the fact that there were more live albums recorded and released during this period than any other period so ultimately I feel I did a good job of separating the periods of their career and being fair about it.

It does seem though that so far at least the prog period is the clear winner.

Prog (easy)

Hard

Later

Toss up between Post and Synth but I'll give it to Synth based on the strength of Signals, the last album that seemed like a completely cohesive, concise, quality collection of songs to me

1. Synth (not even close)

2. Post Synth

3. Modern (Later)

4. Prog

5. Early

Post Synth and Modern were really close for me. My favourite album out of all 8 is Snakes & Arrows, but the other albums in the modern era don't stand up to Roll The Bones & Test For Echo for me. I am not into progressive rock at all. The best thing about the "prog" era for me was the move away from over 10 minute long songs with changing tempos to more songs with compelling choruses and pop sensibilities. Permanent Waves & Moving Pictures were a step in the right direction, as far as I am concerned, and set the stage for the brilliance of the later eras, especially the awesome synth era.
