Flew from SLC to Toronto to Montreal yesterday. I'm officially an international traveler!

Interesting to be in a place that mostly forgoes English

Some dude from Quebec got snooty at me randomly in Vancouver because a) I was American and b) I did't speak French.

Fu** him!! :madra:

Hey that's what I said on page 1! Good advice!

I would have told him to kiss my American a**!

What would you have told the Welsh girl that I mentioned on page 1? Same?

Unfortunately, she wasn't fat and ugly. Just kind of normal.

She always used to bust out with condescending comments towards anything non-UK and go on about how fantastic Wales is. I always thought about telling her, "You know, I don't have anything against Wales but you're definitely a stuck up bitch."

He must be there by now.

Not sure where vt is exactly now but in Phenm Penh (somewhere he's definitely going), it's 29C/84F and mostly sunny. It'll get hotter but only slightly cooler. I think Cambodia is an hour or two behind me so it's 10:15 or 11:15am Christmas Day. If he is there now, he's probably well into his 6th or 7th slice of "Happy" Pizza and can barely remember his name.

Well wherever you are VT, Merry Christmas and bottoms up!

Happy Holidaze from Bangkok!

Got in last night 9pm, and it was close to 30 degrees. Sun came up here a few minutes ago and I think it's going to be a scorcher today!

Hope you're all well, and merry, and well-fed!

Thanks for thinking of me, and talk to you later!

Best;

VT in BKK

Bangers! Muay Thai at Lumpinee Boxing stadium!

Oh remember, this is a family friendly board so I'd refrain from the Patpong pics!

Ha ha! Went to Patpong area and was bemused. After the umpteenth "menu" was waved in my face, my response (said with a smile) was "No thanks, I've already eaten." Which made my wife and friend laugh, and seemed to confuse the menu-wavers.

There is nothing sexy about Patpong, unless you enjoy the stink of desperation.

Bangkok was quite easy to negotiate. The sky-train is a pretty slick way to get around, although it doesn't go to the Palace etc areas.

Cabs are quick and cheap, for the most part.

We're in the Northeast now, after seeing the amazing temples of Ayutthaya. Enjoying lots of different kinds of food, and Thai rum/whiskey/"blended spirits".

Heading to the Deep South tomorrow, for food, beaches, and possibly a dirty-hippy-rasta bar...;)

Happy New Year!

When I travel, I tend to get songs, or bits of songs, stuck in my head, sometimes suggested by something I've seen or heard, sometimes for no apparent reason at all.

One of my recent "loops" has been the Rush lyric:

"The point of the journey is not to arrive. Anything can happen."

I'm not one to quote NP, but that's a pretty good line.

Right now I have Plastic Bertrand stuck in my head. Must exorcise this now.

Traveling in Southeast Asian CITIES makes me think of these lyrics:

I've got Full Metal Jacket to thank for that.

Ha! I think the messin' in Phnom Penh is more my style (less novelty insertions).

One thing's for sure, there will be plenty of walkin'!

The hotel we're in now is decorated with scenes from the Ramayana, and lots of art involving boobs.

Two thumbs up! (Sorry)

:D

Had a window seat on the flight south and had two prog tunes going around in my head looking out at the clouds and ocean.

To Be Over (Yes)

And the chorus of King Crimson's Islands.

beneath the wind turned wave

Infinite peace

Islands join hands

'Neath heaven's sea

And now Plastic Bertrand is back dammit!!!

Phnom Penh is certainly an interesting place but you just can't shake some of the depressing historical sites. Still though, I'd like to go back and explore more.

Keep posting, VT! I love reading about the places you're seeing.

Thanks Goose! I'll post things when I can!

Also wrestling with this damned iPad and it's autocorrect and my ignorance.

This morning we had a delicious breakfast of roti and hot milk tea. Roti is a fried flat bread that can be dipped in spicy curry or filled with banana. We did both. Yum!

Last night we wandered into a place with no menus and very little English and ended up having one of the best meals yet.

We did some pointing and pantomiming, and delicious pork noodle soup appeared on our table along with several mysterious and tasty side-dishes.

Our hotel is directly across from a market that was bombed last August. (Not terrorist apparently, but "mischief", although the one local that was killed would probably disagree). Pretty surreal to see the burnt and twisted metal as we sat with our coffee.

...must not smash this infernal device...friggin' iPad...
