Hershey's Chocolate Reeses

My partner has just got back from the states, had a great time. Bought back the traditional/standard American chocolate, Hershey's and Reeses, for the kids, a sort of selection bag.

Tried some. Don't know how to say this without insulting my fellow rushians across the pond, but it tastes vile. Absolutely disgusting. The Hershey's is so sweet no cocoa and, has an aftertaste akin to vomit, sorry it does.I know cocoa, and this tastes nothing like it. Partially digested milk. The reeses peanut cup, is salty. uggh!

Shocked, whats going on, thought it would be nice. Whats your opinion on this, is patriotism blinding my taste?

Funny thing is, my kids took the candy to their school, you know for a cultural sharing experience for everyone. They brought the candy back!

My kids said the children didn't like them, especially the Reeses peanut butter cup, which I find disgusting too. The children there at least, have voted. :)

Hershey's is what it is. Reese's is great. What's cool about Reese's is all of their products taste a little different but still good. I've seen a lot on line where people not from US don't like peanut butter. Most of us grew up with it though. Have you tries snickers? That's our #1 candy bar.

Yeah I quite like snickers, they used to be called Marathons in the U.K. Snickers are edible for a generic standard chocolate bar, certainly trump Reese's by far.

Yeah Hershey's are what they are, really disgusting.

For a generic standard Milk chocolate bar, Cadbury's would be my choice, along with Galaxy/Dove.

I am really shocked at how this tastes. I had a friend back in 98 who used to remark on his American friends buying Cadbury's to take back to the States.

I never understood this until now. Truly shocked.

I'll keep my Reeses and you can keep your marzipan.

Middle eastern Marzipan is chocolate? :P I'll keep to a nice milk chocolate bar, like Cadbury's :D

We have cadburys at most of the same stores that have Hershey's. One thing about Hershey's is that it's not the same recipe as it was years ago.

Hershey's have bought the rights to make and sell Cadbury's, and have stopped imports of the U.K. version. By all accounts it has a different taste, to the Europe version.

Shit like this pisses me off. Forget warning labels on cigarettes, I want warning labels when you screw with my food like this.

Are you sure about that? I visited the Hershey museum in Hershey Pennsylvania last October. They made it sound like it's the same chocolate they have always been making. I think they did change the formula on the chocolate used on milk duds and whoopers.

A little interesting history about Reeses and Hersheys. Mr. Reese worked for Hershey. He offered his recipe to Mr. Hershey, but Hershey passed because peanut butter had a very short shelf life back in the early 20th century. So Reese went off on his own, and Mr. Hershey sold him chocolate at cost. It turned out that the encasing the peanut butter in chocolate preserved the peanut butter, and the candy was a success. And now Hershey own's Reese's. They keep the companies separate because Hershey is union and Reese's is not.

I think some people have an issue with Hershey's because they let the milk sour a bit before it gets added with the cocoa.

My partner did have a great time, and tried many places for food in New york, and was amazed with the quality of food. She tried(wanted to for a long time) a traditional Americana diner :) and loved that! Wants to go back, well we both do :)
