These questions are for anyone:

1) Of all the movies Freeman and Walken were in, what was the worst?

2) What was the best?

Walken - best and worst are the same though I have a soft spot for his part in Pulp Fiction and the first Prophesy film.

Freeman - The Shawshank Redemption, Million Dollar Baby and Red are my favorites of his. Worst? Honestly I can't think of a bad one.

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I meant, considering ALL of their movies what was THE worst? 1 movie. What was THE best? 1 movie. In your case, was Pulp Fiction or Prophecy better than Shawshank, MDB, or Red?

My answer would definitely be Shawshank as the best of ALL their movies. It's better than Deer Hunter or Pulp Fiction or Million Dollar Baby or Unforgiven IMHO.

Thinking of THE worst is tougher. But offhand I might say Conan The Barbarian (the Jason Momoa one of course) which had Freeman providing the narration.

Oh, here are some others that I thought were not quite okay, bad, or terrible:

Freeman's - Wanted, Deep Impact, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves

Walken's - Wayne's World 2, Batman Returns

* Note: I skipped a lot more Walken movies that looked bad than Freeman movies that looked bad. I assumed Joe Dirt parts 1 and 2 were pieces of crap.

I was having trouble picking just one. Shawshank it probably my favorite of all and one I would consider the best.

Morgan Freeman is such a believable actor no matter what he does and I think if he's in a crappy movie it still doesn't mean his acting was poor.

Christopher Walken however, he's been in some real clunkers but also in some great ones. He became a parody of himself early on since he seems to stand out as himself in every thing he does. We're always aware that this is Chris Walken even through the parts he plays. MF seems to blend into his roles and we forget it's him for a while.

Yup, I agree. And those are the reasons why I picked Freeman.

I really disliked Deep Impact but he wasn't bad in it. I feel the same way about Denzel Washington (possibly my favorite actor). He's never bad even if the movie he's in might be.

Christopher Walken has turned into sort of a self-parody -- he knows he just has to appear in a movie, usually as an over-the-top bad guy, and he'll get laughs. And there's nothing wrong with that. But Morgan Freeman gives any movie he's in a higher level of credibility, so he gets my vote. Plus his voice is awesome.

This.

Walken does the same routine in just about any movie. Freeman makes any movie he's in better, no matter the roll.

Both guys are some pretty cool cats, though.

Everyone seems to have bought into this idea that Walken is a parody of himself now, like they hear people say it or see it written down so they parrot it and believe it. It's not true though.

Nope it's my real opinion from real experience in real life. Imagine that!

I like both, but Walken's performance in The Deer Hunter is untouchable ... The Dead Zone and Annie Hall make this an easy one for me

I was thinking specifically of Deer Hunter (Annie Hall was excellent of course too) and he almost won. But overall, I had to go with Freeman.

I feel that Walken and DeNiro have really become lampoons of themselves. Sure, their greatest work is superb but I hate to see these joke roles that they've been taking over the last several years. I can't even remember the last good movie DeNiro has been in

For DeNiro, it's been a while

A Bronx Tale ??

Cop Land came a few years after so I'm going with that. Can't think of anything else after Cop Land.

What about Ronin? I thought that was a pretty good movie.

De Niro kind of stopped caring somewhere in the late 90's. He started to just do anything, any old project would do and his performances sometimes suffered because of it. I think the tipping point was when he did the film Analyse This in 1998. Everything before that was at least solid and that includes so-so De Niro films like The Fan and Great Expectations. I think those are still decent quality films and performances. Ronin was actually the last "good" film before the slide into mediocrity.

Walken usually plays very interesting characters and I wish he was in more movies. Morgan Freeman is a great actor as well, but not nearly as interesting of a character actor.

Both are good at what they do and I'm not sure you can compare them.

Both are great but Morgan being in every other movie annoys me. I pick Walken.

You're not paying attention. In this century alone...

- Freeman's appeared in 32 movies. It's certainly a lot. I've seen 10 of them.

- Walken's appeared in 43 movies. However, I've seen just 1. It's because he'll do anything...and that's fine. But it's usually fluff like Joe Dirt parts 1 and 2, Balls of Fury, and Nine Lives. Even Freeman's London Has Fallen and Ben-Hur don't look as bad as those. And that's saying a lot.

Still, they're both great but I'm picking Freeman.

I didn't do the math. I guess overexposure by anyone in movie trailers, media, voice overs, tv specials...starts to turn into a negative for me quickly. And you're right, I haven't been paying attention as I'm not a big movie guy in general.

Didn't see it. I can believe it was good though as it was only one year after Cop Land.

I didn't see Rocky & Bullwinkle because it looked awful but he did that in 2000. Maybe that was the starting point of when he turned to shit?

Too late. We've been comparing them for a few pages now.

I hear you though. But I still think you can compare them because many people probably like one more than the other.

5 days out of 7, I like apples more than oranges btw :)

I forgot about Analyze This. You're probably right. And then one year later he did Rocky & Bullwinkle.

I dare you to watch Joe Dirt parts 1 and 2 + Balls of Fury.

I don't know about the parroting part. I've never heard anyone say Walken was a parody of himself. I think I might've said "lampoon"...but I was connecting it more to DeNiro I think.

If tons of people before me had said Brad Pitt were an overacting, over appreciated Hollywood star, I'd agree!
