When they reprinted these for the Star Trek 50th anniversary it was an insta-buy for me.

I don't want it myself but it'd be a cool gift.

Definitely a hell of a gift. Thing is it's insanely expensive for what it is at the full price on the Star Trek site. I got lucky and snagged the last copy for cheap from a board game shop.

What's nice is that it actually has a rulebook. It will never replace a proper game of chess but it's nice to be able to pull it off of the shelf and actually play it every so often. So it's not just a showpiece.

It's the perfect gift for that virgin on your Xmas list. ;)

Not sure if these babies are my "toys"

After all these years, I've got to give them names

LPs_01.jpg

Unless I were some legendary blues guitarist, I wouldn't name them. I'd call them by their model/make...and that's only if someone asked.

I feel the same way about naming cars. Why take "Sally" for a spin? Just get in the damn car and drive. :hail:

Things with character aren't characters.

Given that there's a Klingon language learning book, I figured you could actually play chess on that.

I'm picturing some doughy looking geek in Spock ears and matching uniform sitting behind that board and putting the pic up on their Facebook wall.

If you're thinking that's me I'm sorry to say you're quite far from reality with that one. I don't post much of anything on facebook and I don't own much else in terms of Trek stuff beyond DVDs. As for doughy... by the end of the holidays I think that will apply.

The thought never crossed my mind actually.

I considered this set from the Franklin Mint when it first came out, but at this point in my life, I can't be bothered with learning the 'new' rules and such. My EX bro-in-law had one, don't know if he still does. NO connection with My EX-wife's family at all now. I DO have a first edition REGULAR chess set, normal format but with silver and gold plated figures on a glass and silver metal playing board. I still have THAT.

They've improved it now. There is a Base under the board in the Picture I posted, I don't have that because it didn't come with the original release. Now they have a full blown wooden box type base like the one they used on the Original Monopoly Ultimate release. That is pictured in the first post of my Game collection.

An Aside, I've played on a Monopoly set from the WW 2 era where all the moving pieces were made of shaped wood [probably lathed, but I don't know] but I've always wondered about that, and piecing together things done to pennies during the war with this Monopoly game, It seemed to fit the mold....

I've got way too much dumb stuff to post it all, but here's Ric Flair on a griffin fighting Ahnuld and Surf's Up Batman in front of the greatest album of all time. Bonus Gizmo.

Flair on griffin easily destroys T2 Ahnold and Surf's Up Batman (<---if no prep time).

If it's T1 Ahnold and Surfer Bats (with prep time) vs griffin riding Flair, it's close.

Diorama or tableaux? Either way, this is better than the Hemispheres cover! Nice!
