The Rush Forum's TOP 500 MOVIES

We'll do this similar to the Top Albums threads .. This time, it will be films ( JB warned me against making this thread, but I think it is more fun than a simple "Your Top 10 Movies" thread - more replay value, right ?? )

Please cut and paste the list so we can keep tabs, and try to write a reason for you selection - why you like the film, if it came around in a particularly poignant period of your life, etc

I have no idea how this will go - it could tank right off the bat ..

Anyways, I like the rule Union came up with way back when he made the Top Albums Thread:

1) One movie per post .. They should be movies that YOU enjoy, not so much movies that you feel have achieved greatness thru popularity or box office ..

2) A TRF member can only post an movie every 10 picks (or every 5 if it grows stagnant)

3) Please cut and paste as you post

4) Please give a brief reason beneath your pick as to why you're choosing that particular film. That way it'll be a little more than just a huge list thread

For those who have not had the pleasure, here's an example of how this should go:

http://www.therushforum.com/index.php?/topic/99280-the-rush-forums-top-500-songs-of-the-1980s/

When we are done, if there is still life in this, we can break down each member's picks into individual lists - or even take our list of 500 and post it on another forum ..

And this doesn't necessarily have to reflect the best films of all time in order - it's for fun, and for seeing what other member enjoy, and why ..

ok, let's go

1) 2001: A Space Odyssey ( Lucas )

2) Three Colors Trilogy: Blue, White and Red, by Krzysztof Kieslowski. ( Rhyv )

He was excellent to make movies and choose people to work with. He knew the drama, action and love exact turning points at a movie.

These three movies are related with French Revolution, ideals, feelings, Art and whatever makes us human, on a sensitive special mode.

The related colors prevail and their photography composes exactly like a paiting.

Amazing!

Just one of those movies that really shows the horrors of WW2 and has a compelling story. A really great movie overall.

Excellent choice!

This film never had an impact on me until last month (after I saw the love it gets here I revisited it).

Spielberg in the 90's...a bit inconsistent but for the most part he was on fire!

I hold back tears every time I watch the last scene when he says, "Tell me I led a good life... tell me I'm a good man." Every time.

The most amazing special effects ever seen for its time. A great film adaption of a wonderful book. Teriffic acting, smart pacing, dramatic, funny, smart, heartfelt- just a homerun in every regard. Jurassic Park absolutely belongs near the top of this list.

Does this really need an explanation?

If I picked a film I'd later on realise I should have picked another one, and later on another one and so on and so on. All my picks would always be wrong. Thus I can't participate.

Honestly, this thread is a futile effort as I could list out a hundred movies rather quickly that I would consider masterpieces and it would be almost impossible to rank them.

And then someone would come along and completely disagree with me.

Yeah exactly.

It's a game. It's not meant to be definitive or defining. I enjoy compiling lists like this because I inevitably come across something I haven't heard or seen or something I have forgotten. I discover or rediscover. That's a plus in my book.

You can add one every ten picks- I would love to see favorites from both you guys!

I already need to watch 2001- A Space Odyssey with Lucas- I have seen it (and A Clockwork Orange is another one) a few times. An example of what is supposed to be a great movie and I just don't get it for some reason. I don't care for it.

Yeah but I'm just explaining why I can't do it, not why anyone else can or can't do it. That's all.

2001 is a little slow getting to the point a little like the Godfather. Both have scenes that drag endlessly.

The first 20-30 minutes of the Godfather is a little slow but it is also necessary. After that though, the story moves quite well. You know, I never read the book. I probably should.

I think a lot of people rave about them because they've been described as these brilliant films that you MUST think are fantastic. I've always been unimpressed. I like the ideas in 2001 but it takes ages to get to the point.

Haven't seen many a movie so far in my life, but I'll go ahead and chime in here:

1) 2001: A Space Odyssey ( Lucas )

2) Three Colors Trilogy: Blue, White and Red, by Krzysztof Kieslowski. ( Rhyv )

3) Dumb and Dumber (ReRushed)

4) Schindler's List (Segue Myles)

5) Saving Private Ryan (Bigbobby10)

6) Billy Madison (Super25Smasher)

7) Jurassic Park (Ken Jennings)

8) The Godfather (thesweetscience)

9) Blue Velvet (vaportrailer)

10) Full Metal Jacket (NS 2112)

I know I'm probably "too young" for this movie, sure. But still, it's one of the best war movies ever and I very much enjoyed watching it. And while it is heavy on the profanity, it does add to how realistic it is in its depiction of the Marine Corps and Vietnam. Another well-done Kubrick film.

I'll have to check out the movies listed above in the future as well.
