Live From The Rabbit Hole

So it's going to be the show at auburn hills march 8th already available in You Tub, just frustrating that it's not the complete show.

That's where the clips from the doc appear to be from. The quality doesn't look that much better than the low-gen stuff that's already out there, but at least there's an official release. It would have made sense to release the whole show (which I'm sure will happen in the future based on the past several years. Laura Secord.... Capitol Theatre....)

I can't remember if I have the Palace DVD or not, but I have the whole show on video. Visually, the 3/8/90 Detroit show is better than Mountainview.

You think so? I agree that in terms of wide shots and overall coverage and stuff it's better captured as a show but I've got both the Mountain View and Auburn Hills shows from 1990 and I think Mountain view is much cleaner audio and video-wise. That's why I was shocked to hear people say the bonus content comes from the Auburn Hills proshot. Bordercollie wrote elsewhere - "The Presto footage is indeed from the Auburn Hills March 8 show. Sounded fantastic and looked much better than what has been floating around the internet/trading circles. The played a montage of Red Barchetta through the years and there were brief audio/video clips from various releases, including the "new" Presto footage." But I haven't seen the doc yet so I'll be curious to see for myself.

That may be true, but the footage from the doc seems to indicate it's from Auburn Hills because the clothes they are wearing in those clips match the Detroit show.

I'm not 100 percent sure on this but I think Auburn Hills may have been a pay-per-view show which would make it more likely that the band would have a copy of it.

But then the question becomes: Why not release the whole thing? (I have to admit this is my least favorite tour probably ever, so I would just rather hear the Presto songs and maybe a few other good performances of the oldies.)

I think the Mountain View performance is better than Auburn Hills myself, but they may not have a copy of that.

Oh, I'm not arguing the source, I'm sure it's Auburn Hills. My "You think so?" was about your last sentence that Auburn Hills is better visually than MV.

It's been a while since I've watched both (Have the DVD now but will watch later) but I remember a lot more shots of the band during Auburn Hills, but I think performance-wise and visually Mountain View has the edge, but I just recall a lot of screen shots and dead space when I last watched the Mountain View show (Unless there are different recordings floating around which would mean I have an inferior copy.

Mountain view was superior in Audio quality but I felt that the auburn hills pro shot had better video quality. I think both bootlegs kind of suck and the only decent bootleg to come from that tour was a soundboard from the hartford 90, but even then it's still not great. It seems a lot of people were a little weary about the inclusion of the presto footage on Time Stand Still but frankly im so glad they did! Songs like Scars, War Paint, and Superconductor haven't been officially released live and I think the whole album killed great songs with lame production and when played live there was a certain energy that was present that wasn't on the actual album and I think the inclusion of this footage is absolutely necessary. Especially Scars, which I think is such an unappreciated song and I don't get it. Infectious bassline, cool guitar improv by Alex (especially live, he really shreds on his guitar in some sections) and the African style drumming is pretty freaking great.

Totally agree, I'm loving everything about this footage, the visuals and audio are great and the performances are terrific. All the Presto songs in particular though really shine. I saw that tour twice, in San Antonio and Dallas, and it was loud as hell (maybe the loudest I've ever heard them out of over 40 shows starting in 1988) and the new songs really impressed. I'm so glad we finally have high quality live official versions of these, just like I really appreciate all the previously unreleased live TFE stuff on the 1997 Toronto show.

And yeah, I love that Hartford show as well.

Yeah, now i'm just hoping they will release some Counterparts Pro Shot footage!

Yes CP tour stuff would be awesome. More 90s! It's a dry period visually for the band as far as official releases. That was the period I really became an obsessive of the band and saw my first show on the CP tour. So it would be a joy to have. I would like the T4E stuff too, but I have all the other concerts in the box set, so I am hoping for a stand alone release of that footage at some point.

And yes the Presto footage is welcome and it is great to see rarely played Presto songs live.

Well said. So much TRF chat about the production of the Presto, RGB and CP era...these albums have strong tunes with confusing production.

Seeing a cleaner version of Presto tour (AND THE GIANT RABBITS!!) brought me right back to 1990. These songs were very good live, as was Geddys live vocals back then

Hopefully they will release the full show and also material from CP and RtB tours also.

I was a little disappointed that we see a piece of Red Barchetta in the doc, but the full song was not included. Maybe they assume we fans have all the versions of it that we need (but then, why yet another TS?). Overall, very nice footage. I didn't have the bootleg, so it's all new to me. Edited by TexMike

There are a few cuts from the presto tour that I wish they included as well, such as Xanadu and also on an unrelated note, you think since the documentary is called "Time Stand Still" then they would have included that song on the bonus footage, since we dont have footage of that song in that era and it would just make sense, but there are a few others that I wish was included. Hell I wish they gave us the full show lol. But in a way im just really thankful they just gave us SOMETHING from the tour, at a MUCH higher quality then we have ever had from the tour. And they also included all the presto songs played from the tour which are really the highlights.

Other than the Presto songs, I'm not much of a fan of the older songs the way they were performed on this tour.

Here's the whole show.

I agree, although La Villa sounded way better then it did on the HYF tour.

It's crazy watching the footage you just uploaded and comparing it to what was included on the Documentary. The quality is MILES ahead!

I wish they would release the rest of the HYF footage. They recorded over the three nights. They absolutely have to have all of the songs , or other funny bloopers and stuff that was cut out. I loved the ASOH CD. I play it over and over. I wore out the cassette AND the CD. I wish they would've included more on the DVD, but this is a totally different topic than the Presto footage.

I would be more excited that they released more footage from the Exit Stage Left DVD but I don't count on this. It would be my 10th version of that show!

But I haven't seen the doc yet so I'll be curious to see for myself.

Secondly, TFEman wrote above "I can't stress enough that Rush has access to TONS of pro-shot footage that was always ready just in case they wanted to make a lconcert film. I would expect neither of those two boots to be the source of this new bonus content." but I couldn't disagree more. While their live audio recordings are almost surely extensive I'm pretty sure their video library is virtually exhausted other than the remaining half of the Toronto TFE show. The only hope for any other proshot shows would be if somehow another venue filmed show leaked. I'm still holding out hope that the RTB tour was also fully filmed at Auburn Hills. There are so many proshot clips from throughout the show and the previous and following tours were both filmed there.

Other than that? We'd have to get really lucky that maybe one of the other venues like the Houston Summit that filmed often may have something in their vault. But that's about it. The ONLY other hope I see is more footage from shows we've already seen. For example, the Atlanta show in 2008 that the four bonus songs were pulled from. They obviously filmed more because there are several other different songs on Neil's own dvd that were filmed there. And then of course there's the slim hope that the remaining footage from the three 80s shows could be found and restored. I don't think we'll ever see any more of those though. But people who are just assuming that Rush has all these proshot shows just sitting in a vault are not realistic at all about that. I've heard people say things like "They should release a dvd from the Signals tour" or some other random thing as though they can just go back in time and film stuff. Filming a show is a major undertaking and is also almost impossible to do without people knowing. The idea that they set up (especially 20 or more years ago when there weren't even rearscreen cameras) and filmed shows that we don't know about is just fantasy.

So those are my thoughts...

I said that because I was told that by someone that the band supposedly sits on a lot of footage from a couple of tours. I never said I believe it, or that I know 100% for a fact. It was also kind-of an assumption, considering how on almost all of their live albums before R30, they have bonus tracks from different dates during the tour, or in the case of Different Stages, different dates from an entirely different tour.

Geddy is on the record as saying that nearly every show from the Test For Echo Tour was recorded (audio) because they could (whether they still have all of that is another story entirely.)

Finally got to see this as i just picked up Time Stand Still. Very impressed by the quality and so happy to have a video of all those rarely played Presto songs. Presto was the first tour I saw Rush on and I was very impressed by the set list & show even though I was not, at that time, impressed with the Presto album. That came many years latter. Now I thrilled to have a video that is heavy with the Presto songs.

Oddly though, the thing I was happiest to see was those wonderful bunny's!!!

I remember seeing them during the Presto tour and loving them. Those wonderful, floppy eared, hopping, head banging bunny's. Thought they were so cool. So happy to see them again. Was hoping they would be in the video and was so thrilled when they were.

I know its strange but what can I say.

Now if we could just a full Presto show & a full Counterparts show. This gives me hope that those were recorded (plus perhaps more, older shows).

Honestly, I'd love to get another TFE, Vapor Trails, or CA concert released on iTunes or something. The CA mix was awful, and the TFE & Vapor Trails tours left out some of my favorites: Limbo, Virtuality, Time and Motion, Ceiling Unlimited.

Alex broke it down in an interview in the 1994-96 timeframe. He said that they have 6-7 shows recorded on multitrack for every tour from Hemispheres on. They started the practice of recording every show on two-track during the RtB tour. (An example of which would be the bonus tracks on "Rush in Rio".) Video is a whole separate deal

Really? I thought it was the CP tour. Silly me.

That 2-track stuff makes me wonder if any of it will see the light of day. I think doing something like Metallica has done would be nice, but I am not holding my breath.

They have, albeit in un-offical releases.

There are many soundboard bootlegs from RTB, CP, and TFE tours that are near official quality.

Check out "Vital Dreams" from the RTB tour, "Nuts & Bolts" from the CP tour, or just about any bootleg from the TFE tour (favorites are Great Woods and Summer Skies and Bigger and better in texas)

So it looks like the guys who supposedly had a incredibly large amount of pro shot footage from tours that we didn't get any DVD or album up until now are finally starting to release it. I'm sure everyone knows by now, but with the new R40 doc "Time Stand Still" comes extra pro shot footage from the PResto tour, entitled "Live From The Rabbit Hole." Any thoughts?

Yeah, a wonderful surprise and that was :rush: at their peak or pretty damn close. I'm blessed that the Vapor Trails tour was not my first!

I have thoughts of frustration seeing that the Presto footage was cut instead of giving us the whole show. I guess they wanted to keep the remaining for another cd,dvd package to get more money from us

The remastered footage is on Youtube, I watched it.

It looks AMAZING! So beautifully detailed, WAY, WAY better than the bootleg. I'm so glad to have another vault release! This opens up the possibility for MORE in the future! All I wish is that it was the full show.

Some shows I KNOW they have:

Agora 12/16/1974 (FM Broadcast)

All three Massey Hall shows in full

All three St. Louis shows

Glasgow, 6/10-11/1980 (Second Side of ESL)

The full Montreal show (ESL)

Manchester, 6/17/1980 (Bangkok on Deluxe 2112)

Edmonton 6/25/1981 (2112 on 2112 Deluxe)

East Rutherford 1986 (Show of Hands)

New Orleans, Phoenix, and San Diego 1988 (On Show Of Hands)

Mountain View 1990 (Pro-shot)

Auburn Hills 1994 (Pro-Shot, plus The Analog Kid on DS)

Miami 1994 (Show Don't Tell on DS)

Dallas, Mansfield, Molson, and Cinncinati 1997 (On Different Stages)

Hartford 2002 (Pro-shot)

Phoenix and Quebec 2002 (Bonus tracks on Rush In Rio)

Atlanta 2008 (Bonuses on SnA live)

Full Phoenix, Dallas, and San Antonio 2012 (CA live)

Kansas City, Buffalo, and Los Angeles 2015 (R40)

It should be noted that they have even more shows recorded then the ones you listed... many shows from Roll The Bones, full show of GUP tour, more from counterparts, like 17 more shows recorded from T4E, and probably shows we don't even know they recorded that haven't been leaked.

I have thoughts of frustration seeing that the Presto footage was cut instead of giving us the whole show. I guess they wanted to keep the remaining for another cd,dvd package to get more money from us

I think that's the last we're going to see of any Presto Tour footage, but then I've always considered that to be the mid-life crisis tour.

The set of non-Presto songs and the performances in general weren't very inspiring to me.

No way to prove this, but I think when Neil went back to school at some point after the tour ended could have been an indication that there needed to find more inspiration on a more consistent basis.
