I generally like ketchup, mustard, & relish on a regular (veggie) hot dog, but mustard, sauerkraut, and ketchup on a (veggie) sausage. Of those, mustard is what I need to have! Edited by x1yyz

I've never seen anyone order avocado on a hot dog so I'm surprised it cracked the top 10.

Mayo is gross anytime it's used so that elininates that. Cheese itself is good but not on my dogs. Coney sauce, sauerkraut, and relish are a bit strong and drown out the taste of the dog itself so they're out. Though onions and chili aren't bad, I rarely add them. This leaves only ketchup and mustard...with mustard for the win.

Mustard, chili, and onions. As God intended.

The best toppings for a hot dog are the ones that make a "Chicago" dog. Mustard, relish, onions, tomato, torpedo peppers, pickle, celery salt. That is how you eat a hot dog!

I don't want a damn Jackson Pollock painting in my hot dog! :poke:

But I think I'll try one with #s 1, 2, 3, and 7.

If I had to pick only one it would be chili. I also enjoy the other end of the spectrum as well from time to time Sauerkraut....

If we have to pick only one I gotta go with chili, but ZuZu's greek tzatziki sauce sounds strangely delicious. I could see trying that sometime.

I'd try it. But with most dishes, less is more for me. For years I ate hot dogs with nothing on them. Still do occasionally but I prefer mustard at least.

I remember an old tv health ad during Saturday morning cartoons. It had a jingle that went "Don't drown your food" with all these cartoon salads and dishes being drowned in dressing and sauces then wiped off at the end. Even if some sauce or whatever is healthy, I don't want it taking away from the true taste of the dish. "Just a little please" (if any) :)

I'm too lazy to YouTube that "Don't drown your food" ad

I'm actually the same way. I picked chili because I enjoy it once in a while, and I like tzatziki at a greek restaurant. For the most part I don't use condiments, though, I was weird about that as a kid and didn't like them. My husband is the same way; he jokes that that's why we are soul mates- just a little vinegar and oil on salads, haha, and guacamole on mexican food! :)

Yeah, as a kid I used even fewer condiments. That comes from my parents though because when cooking they just used the natural sauces from the dish itself ((the juice from roast pork for example)) and sprinklings of salt and pepper. They used simple gravies and stuff like that but grilled hamburgers and hot dogs got little more attention than ketchup and mustard. When I get a burger out here I have to tell the staff I don't want any mayo ((they typically drown the burger with that garbage)). For making that request they sometimes look at me like I'm demanding to see the prime minister or something

Me, I'm all about the condiments. Food is a vehicle for condiments; the more, the merrier!

Two of my kids turned out that way also; we always did have condiments for guests and cookouts and BBQ chicken but they really got into mustard etc. when they went to college. They were like, you were holding out on us!

I liken condiments on food to cosmetics on women...a little bit of cosmetics is fine but when it's caked on too thick, then the beauty is hidden. I know I know I'm entering some potentially dangerous waters....cosmetics, condiments, women, and hot dogs...
