Peanut Butter!

Does anyone here have any strong feelings about peanut butter? What's your favourite kind? What are your favourite ways to use peanut butter other than in a sandwich?

I don't eat peanut butter often, but at times I have a specific craving for it. When that happens, it becomes the most delicious and satisfying thing in the world. Like right now!

This is my favourite:

I can't eat bread, so I eat it off a spoon, or sometimes dip spicy rice crackers in it. Yum!

I hated it when I was a kid, which drove my mom nuts. I like the smooth kind now, on toast or with bananas is almost the best. The very best is this!

Not sure that name would go over real big in the Christmas cookie exchange! :P

Someone offers me a nipple cookie, I'm taking it!

Peanut butter and chocolate are a no brainer good match but peanut butter cookies are even better.

Elvis was onto something here...inspired cuisine!

If you've not tried this, do it at least once

250px-A_B_Sandwich.jpg

The peanut butter and banana sandwich has been referred to as a favorite of Elvis Presley,[4] who was renowned for his food cravings such as the Fool's Gold Loaf, a loaf of Italian bread filled with a pound of bacon, peanut butter, and grape jelly.[5] Books on Elvis Presley's favorite foods and culinary tastes, as well as other published reports on his taste for peanut butter and banana sandwiches with or without bacon, have made the sandwich widely associated with Presley. It is often referred to using his name.[6][7][8]

Presley's fondness for peanut butter and banana sandwiches is well established; however, bacon is not mentioned in all accounts.[9]A book about Presley and his mother, Gladys Presley, though, says he had "sandwich after sandwich of his favorite—peanut butter, sliced bananas, and crisp bacon". Another passage describes him talking "feverishly until dawn" while "wolfing" down the sandwiches (described in this instance as being made with mashed banana).[10]

A news report suggests that, based on renditions of sandwiches named after him, Presley ate his with caramelized bananas and crispy bacon on grilled Hawaiian bread, and grilled by his mother or his cook in bacon fat.[citation needed] The Good, the Bad, and the Yummy describes it as consisting of half a banana and a piece of bacon per sandwich, browning the sandwiches in a frying pan with butter, cutting the sandwiches into wedges, and piling them high.[11]

Too funny! We had not seen this exact quote, but a few years ago Mr. blues and I went as Peanut Butter and Banana to an Elvis party a friend was having. I think we won a little prize or something because there were about 10 Elvises (Elvi ??) and some Priscillas as well. We were the only sandwich ! :) We kept the foam board costumes but they are looking the worse for wear these days!

Jif is my favorite brand. I find Skippy too dry. And when it comes to peanut butter, it seems you get what you pay for. The cheap generic brands usually don't pass muster although some manage to for me.

Ask 73 for his awesome peanut butter cookie recipe! I can't wait to make them again. I have a special jar of natural peanut butter in the closet waiting for the first Autumn-like day to make them. :)

I love peanut butter on or in pretzels and chocolate. Also was into eating it on celery at one point in the late eighties.

I love peanut butter. PB and bananas, raw celery or carrots, as a topping for ice-cream, in a milkshake or smoothie, or solo with a spoon. One of the most decadent applications I ever had was on a burger that had swiss cheese, bacon, grilled onions and chunky peanut butter. Pure heaven.
