I know these two songs really aren't well related, but I kind of want to see how they go head to head.

Being someone who loves the synth era, I'm definitely going with Mission. I think it's a fantastic song with an awesome message behind it. That's not to say I dislike Lakeside Park at all, I just prefer the former.

Well, I actually haven't given Mission a good listen yet since I've only been listening to Rush since late last year, so I won't vote until later...but I have heard Lakeside Park quite a few times. I think it's actually one of Rush's best "soft" songs of that era (mid-to-late '70's), along with Tears and, though it's not really that soft, Cinderella Man.

I just appreciate Lakeside Park's mellow, relaxed sound, especially near the end where Geddy sings "Though it's just a memory, some memories last forever.", which is a really good lyrical conclusion to the song. Just a nice, easy-listening Rush tune, IMO.

Lakeside Park is a classic. Mission is a great song but hard to compare unless we're just picking favorites. I like them both.

Seriously, you're comparing Mission with Lakeside Park??

Mission is a sub par Rush song. The acapella beginning is cringeworthy. The whole song is just bleh.

Lakeside Park is a classic.

No comparison. None. No.

Lakeside Park is a classic.

No comparison. None. No.

1. Geddy's bass playing on the live version of Mission is exquisite.

2. like F-L said, it has one of Alex's best solos of any song.

3. It has a beautiful synth line.

So I wouldn't call it sub par on that basis.

I recall hearing Mission the first time thinking this seriously cant be Rush. Coincidently HYF is the only tour I missed post Perm Waves. Surprising LP is down.

Hm.

I would.

Oh wait, I do...I just did.

It's a pee break song...soon as I heard the first vocal strains of it on the S&A tour...Ooops, time to go!

HYF does absolutely nothing for me. I find it almost un-listenable. Other than Turn the Page, I actually like that song.

I'm opinionated. But I'm also cognizant enough to know my opinion is not the only opinion out there. I just happen to loath Mission. And that's my issue, not yours.
