On the other hand, Segue mentioned Deadpool in the Top 500 Songs Of The 80s because of the great song Angel Of The Morning

I have been so disgusted with American movies that I had to go to youtube and watch The Deadpool trailer just to see what it was ( thinking it was the Clint Eastwood film from the 80s )

The garbage people watch is comical - but then you realize how far things have fallen, and it is really sad ..

And then there are the commercials for the US Army, and how they are sponsoring the new Independence Day movie

That is f***ing scary

.

.

I watched a bit of Deadpool today...gonna be honest Lucas, it's very comical. Great script! Better than the trailer had me believe.

There is always room for crappy or escapist movies .. But there is no balance - everything is the same ....

The Independence Day thing really bothers me though, with the US Army affiliation ....

sickening, actually

I'm not sure Deadpool is for me either but for what it is I don't dislike it.

I will say though that there is a major exception to Hollywood movies that don't really solely on CGI: The Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Plenty of practual effects used wisely and excellent makeup. Adore them, the last major old school feeling Hollywood production methinks. Also, there are a lot more practical effects in the Potter movies as well than people realise (but sheesh a lot of the CGI is unnecessary and ropey).

I love old school filmmaking. Even into the mid-90's a lot of the old school methods were still commonly used.

Anybody ever see any of these ??

Happiness is an independent film made right here in NJ .. It is beyond words - very irreverent and funny -

Summer Of Sam is incredible, and Virgin Suicides is great

Love all of these

I thought Summer of Sam was just ok. It seemed a bit overly busy to me. Liked the cast though.

Virgin Suicides was great though.

Didn't see Happiness.

JB, Happiness is something you'll either love or really dislike

It's like 3 or 4 different storylines all intersecting, and the humor is very very dark

I love it

Ok. I've never heard of it.

The guy on that cover looks like Philip Seymour Hoffman.

(Edited to add: I just checked, PSH is in that. I assume that's him then)

Have you guys seen William Friedkin's Sorcerer with Roy Scheider ??

I just got the blu ray ... It is one of my favorites - and I never hear many people talk about it

Haha! I have it on blu! Of course I do! LOL! Great movie!!! Jaws 2 and Jaws 3 are FINALLY on blu!!!

Right now I am listening to the Christine soundtrack. "They Live" on blu will be next!!!!! Never gets old!

Did you just...get...excited...for Jaws 2 and 3?

You are crazy haha

HAHAHAHAHA!!! YEP!!!! I LOVE BEING DIFFERENT!!!!!

Jaws 2 and 3 are cheese but I love them! 4 was awful!! But Brody's wife was at least the star in it!!!

Dude. You are typing to a guy who's TOP 2 FILM OF ALL TIME ON THE EARTH IS "HALLOWEEN III!"

OF COURSE!!!

"JAWS 3" In 3D was awesome!!! Just corny!!! I love corny!!!! Makes me HORNY!

Halloween 3 is awesome! Never got why it's part of the franchise but I remember it really freaking me out!

Not gonna lie...you might hate me forever...but my favourite Halloween film is Halloween h2o

Wait a New York Minute son! Really?

You just said that Halloween III is awesome.

Congrats!

U just made a friend for life. But I think you already knew that.

I will always have your back.

If anyone gives you shit I will lay them out with words of wit and war.

You rock dude.

I need some time too think about bands for you. Because I actually do care.

AWESOME!

Same here! You disappeared for a while so when you came back I was like I CAN'T HANDLE HIM...And then I am just like "I needed that crazy thread he just made".

And yes, Halloween 3 is a weird film. I remember wondering if I had the right thing as a kid but yes it's wonderful.

I never really enjoyed Halloween. I prefer John Carpenters other famous movies and...yikes...I genuinely found one of the remakes scary!

And h2o is a tongue in cheek slice of nineties cheese.

I enjoyed the Scream trilogy as well haha

That's awesome buddy. It's nice to feel appreciated on here even though I do love to annoy people on purpose and go off the charts!! It's all about writing a HIT RECORD on a public forum.

Even I need a frigging break.

I forgot to mention H2O is good. Because Curtis signed on to get axed. LOL

Like Harrison Ford in Episode VII

He wanted to die in Empire Strikes Back.

Anyway I love NIGHTBREED!!!

Directed by Clive Barker but the great thing is David Cronenberg is in the movie!!!!!!!!! CRONENBERG RULES!!!! SHIVERS! SCANNERS! DEAD RINGERS! DEAD ZONE!!! NAKED LUNCH!! GOD I LOVE THE MACOB! THAT RHYMED!!!!

CLIVE RULES!! HELLRAISER!!

HELLRAISER II RULES!

Nightbreed scared me so much I don't think I could ever see it again but...who knows?!

It was one of the few times in my life where I was genuinely terrified.

I was way too young to see it...

But buddy! I felt that way with The Thing and Halloween III.

Saw both in the theater. Scared the fukking shit out of my young bunghole.

Love it.

"Poltergeist" was PG. Amazing classic perfect film.

I will say though that I miss prosthetics and make up in horror today. Nightbreed is terrifying because their is a hideous, believable and organic feel to the monsters in this film (and Hellraiser, which I could never watch but have seen glimpses of), and The Thing.

Today it is mostly computerised, the practical effects limited mostly to low budget movies by directors who lack any thought as to know how to use them adequately (Guillermo del Toro's masterpiece Pan's Labyrinth aside). There is nothing scary or believable about CGI in horror! Honestly I had to watch a film called Mama (it was at work) and everyone kept telling me how scary it was but truthfully I could tell the actors couldn't see anything to be scared by as the effects were CGI. And the CGI looked AWFUL!!

I Am Legend, already ruined by the simple fact it bastardised a classic book, Silent Hill, and many others just SUCK!

I am not at all a horror fan to be honest but I admire film making and genuinely enjoy the creative aspect of what was being done by horror directors in the seventies and eighties especially.

Exactly Myles! I couldn't have said it better myself. "The Thing" is the true perfect example of REAL special effects!!!!! Hollywood is dead to me. Lazy CGI addicts. I mean have you seen the trailer to the new Ghostbusters? It's an embarrassment to the film industry.

Again, Hollywood is out of ideas. Constantly recycling movies from the 80's. A complete joke. Don't even get me started on the stupid overdone comic book movies.

Pathetic. They even ruined my favorite comic book villain, VENOM.

This is for you Earl.

Avengers Assemble!

The Destroyer and Hawkeye. Love it.
