RUSHHEAD666
I love this thread! 80's films and horror...LOVE IT! Don't you love the irony???? This has become one of my greatest threads of all time!!!! Through all the rants and darkness and chaos comes the light!!!! The light is POLTERGEIST! LOL!!! The light is JOHN CARPENTER!!!!! 70's and 80's horror films are just like the music that came out during those same decades. NOTHING WILL TOUCH THEM!!!!!! I like some grunge, but take that Seattle shit and shove it!!!! Mother Love Bone "APPLE" is a great record Myles. So there's one band!!!!! Fukk Pearl Jam! "TEN" is a masterpiece. But after that? CRAP Mother Love Bone sadly evolved into Pearl Jam because singer Andrew Wood overdosed!!

I prefer John Carpenters other famous movies and...yikes...I genuinely found one of the remakes scary! And h2o is a tongue in cheek slice of nineties cheese. But I say that as a Dan who lost interest in them like eight years ago and haven't really played anything since... Grunge is great but it's definitely an ear that I have to be in the mood for. It's been a while but there are moments that last week's where grunge is all I need. Ever seen Clive Barkers Nightbreed? I saw it as a kid, I went downstairs at night to watch it in secret and it scared me so much I didn't sleep well for weeks.

Jaws 2 and Jaws 3 are FINALLY on blu!!!Jaws 3-D...saw that as a little kid back in the summer of '83. Dennis Quaid wasn't a Jaws kind of guy! Ah well. He was best a few years earlier in the late 70s classic Breaking Away! Damn those Cutters! The summer before Jaws 3D was Friday the 13th 3D. Both Friday the 13th 3D & Jaws 3D were shit. Both were entertaining. I was blessed and I was cursed. Now I'm sounding a little bit like Earl. Earl, listen to me: Go watch Southern Comfort for the first time! Lucas
My best friend in high school worked at a local video store, and also, my first girlfriend worked at a video store in Bayonne .. Through out the 80s, we watched everything as soon as it came out ( if we hadn't already seen it in the theater ) A few that I am proud to say I saw in the theater http://www.canuxploitation.com/graphx/moviebox/humongous.jpghttp://www.blockislandtimes.com/sites/manisses/files/2014/06/field/image/movie-poster-the-thing.jpg

Lucas
Anyone seen Maniac ?? What do you think ? The first 45 minutes or so were probably some of the best, most grim and dirty ever filmed - Times Square in the early 80s - the film captured it perfectly .. But it lost a lot of steam IMHO Still, a great film, and Joe Spinell was an incredible presence on film

Lucas
Patrick McCaw - welcome to The Warriors Great job getting him .... He shoots from all over, needs zero time to shoot, can defend, and has a huge wingspan Klay's backup for now - at 6'7" 185lbs he'll get a little bigger, but I think he's a great pick

I will say though that I miss prosthetics and make up in horror today. Nightbreed is terrifying because their is a hideous, believable and organic feel to the monsters in this film (and Hellraiser, which I could never watch but have seen glimpses of), and The Thing. Today it is mostly computerised, the practical effects limited mostly to low budget movies by directors who lack any thought as to know how to use them adequately (Guillermo del Toro's masterpiece Pan's Labyrinth aside). There is nothing scary or believable about CGI in horror! Honestly I had to watch a film called Mama (it was at work) and everyone kept telling me how scary it was but truthfully I could tell the actors couldn't see anything to be scared by as the effects were CGI. And the CGI looked AWFUL!! I Am Legend, already ruined by the simple fact it bastardised a classic book, Silent Hill, and many others just SUCK! I am not at all a horror fan to be honest but I admire film making and genuinely enjoy the creative aspect of what was being done by horror directors in the seventies and eighties especially.

Exactly Myles! I couldn't have said it better myself. "The Thing" is the true perfect example of REAL special effects!!!!! Hollywood is dead to me. Lazy CGI addicts. I mean have you seen the trailer to the new Ghostbusters? It's an embarrassment to the film industry.Again, Hollywood is out of ideas. Constantly recycling movies from the 80's. A complete joke. Don't even get me started on the stupid overdone comic book movies. Pathetic. They even ruined my favorite comic book villain, VENOM.

Lucas
On the other hand, Segue mentioned Deadpool in the Top 500 Songs Of The 80s because of the great song Angel Of The Morning I have been so disgusted with American movies that I had to go to youtube and watch The Deadpool trailer just to see what it was ( thinking it was the Clint Eastwood film from the 80s ) The garbage people watch is comical - but then you realize how far things have fallen, and it is really sad .. And then there are the commercials for the US Army, and how they are sponsoring the new Independence Day movie That is f***ing scary . . And then there are the commercials for the US Army, and how they are sponsoring the new Independence Day movie That is f***ing scary . . I watched a bit of Deadpool today...gonna be honest Lucas, it's very comical. Great script! Better than the trailer had me believe.
And then there are the commercials for the US Army, and how they are sponsoring the new Independence Day movie That is f***ing scary . . I watched a bit of Deadpool today...gonna be honest Lucas, it's very comical. Great script! Better than the trailer had me believe. There is always room for crappy or escapist movies .. But there is no balance - everything is the same .... The Independence Day thing really bothers me though, with the US Army affiliation .... sickening, actually
