Bands You're Obsessing Over Right Now

Recommended Posts

Opeth

Porcupine Tree

Haken

Steven Wilson

I can rarely go a day or two without listening to these bands right now. I am trying to get into Dream Theater this week for some variety but these four just won't let up on me. I crave them.

On a big Poison kick at the moment. Great party band, underrated by music snobs for the most part. They wrote a truckload of killer tunes.

Hair metal is really great fun!

Only recently came off my binging of Ratt and Dokken.

I've started paying more attention to Dokken lately. They were really a good band.

Good thread idea!

I've been trying to continue new music discovery, and friends here have certainly helped. I can't stop listening to,

Devin Townsend

Cheap Trick

Aerosmith

David Bowie

among other honorable mentions

:)

Back For The Attack is a GREAT album. Every time I hear Mr. Scary I repeat it for hours...just a great album and it's so easy to listen too.

Since my heavy jazz phase began a couple of weeks ago, I can't get enough of Wayne Shorter, Charles Mingus, Horace Silver, Lee Morgan, etc...

Today, I just lit into Ornette Coleman, and I'll start on a run of Grachan Moncur III in the very near future.

Check out the Jackie McLean Blue Note era from 63-67.

For me:

Rush (not just saying that, have been replaying Dallas R40 a lot lately)

Eric Church (country singer/songwriter that rocks a lot)

R.E.M. (missed a lot of their stuff the first time around)

I go thru phases where I Listen to them a lot. My favorites

Document

Fables if the Reconstruction

Lifes Rich Pageant

Dead Letter Offfice

New Adventures in HiFi

Green

Only one of those do I not own, and haven't heard- New Adventures. Highly recommended?

Yes. I really like it.

Its really different for them. Read up on the history of that tour and the physical and mental toll it took on them.

The album is pretty much dismissed...or was upon release, but I really dig it. I thought it was a refreshingly raw and heavy effort, and a nice contrast to the direction they had gone since Green.

I have:

It's Time

Action

Right Now

Consequence

Jacknife

Haven't listened to any of them in more than 20 years...I just listened to the Let Freedom Ring album on YouTube last weekend, but I have those five albums above compiled on three cassettes, which I have planned to transfer to disc. Just haven't gotten to them yet. But I will.

I have been obsessed with all things Steven Wilson related for the last couple of years, especially PT, Blackfield, Storm Corrosion and his solo work. I have tried to get into Dream Theater a number of times, but I can't seem to connect with them. They are technically very competent but I find their music dull.

Thanks!

I have listened to many of his singles over the years, but have truthfully never expected him to be much of an albums artist. I just played this and his debut and I am blow away!
