Blue Barchetta
I love Rush! Even Test for Echo (which I give a lot of grief on this site) is better than 80% of other music out there. The only problem I have is how some people don't recognize that they are the greatest band to ever walk the earth. Do these people have malformed eardrums?I have no idea. I was wondering the same thing lately and kind of asked the same question earlier in this thread. No accounting for taste, I guess. For Pete's sake...some people think Pink Floyd is good! :outtahere:

He's mentioned the guitar solo in Comfortably Numb as being one of his favorites more than once.
Lorraine
Here's a huge gush over a much maligned album which I happen to think is great - Test For Echo. I'm listening to a good boot from that tour now - Bigger and Better In Texas (12/05/96) Edited May 21, 2016 by Lorraine

I love the title song and more songs on the rest of the album than any other Rush album since Signals and none after Test For Echo.

And Geddy with those bouncy feet of his, I guess his fingers use up all his physical grace :rfl:

I've always liked the album myself though there were a few clunkers on it, but that's not unusual after Signals.
GeddysMullet
Maybe I'll revisit Test For Echo. I've always thought of it as one of their boring albums, but the other day, a song from it came onto my shuffle, and it sounded surprisingly good. It wouldn't be the first time I dismissed a Rush album only to discover it properly at a later time.

Listened to it once and hated it. But someone here shamed me into listening to it again, and I'm glad he did.

g under p
Gush over Rush. If I had to gush then I'd start by saying that every song on Grace Under Pressure is beautiful. There's a certain mood to the whole album... very adult in a way that their previous albums weren't, particularly. It doesn't make a lot of sense to other people when I try explaining it, but it's a romantic album. I love everything Alex does on Red Sector A. I love Geddy's voice from Signals to Presto, but especially the way he sounds on GUP. Such a pretty vibrato! Ditto^^^^^^^The album is **excellence** which is followed by Power Windows and that album is not too far behind GUP.

I wasn't a fan then, I liked a few Rush songs but went to the show mostly just for a night out, and to tell a friend of mine who is a Rush lifer that I'd seen them. Part of what made me fall for Rush so quickly and so hard was that I'd gone expecting a bit of a nostalgia act, and what I got instead was a vital, creative band that was totally fired up to be playing the exciting new music they'd just made. I bought the album the next day, and even though it's fallen a few places on my favourites list since then, it will always have a special place in my heart.

That's why I still love Tom Sawyer so much. If it wasn't for that song, I would never have bought Moving Pictures back then and would never have come to love Rush. I've always thought of it as one of their boring albums, but the other day, a song from it came onto my shuffle, and it sounded surprisingly good. It wouldn't be the first time I dismissed a Rush album only to discover it properly at a later time. I certainly did that with Power Windows even though I saw them 5 times on that tour. I wanted what I wanted and that was something similar to GUP.....which was never to be duplicated. I was young, who would want that duplication.....it was only until last year that I realized how great an album that was. A Thanksgiving road trip proved it from Palm Beach FL~Willmington NC, 22 total hours of driving by myself with every RUSH album (live ones too) and 1 RHCP GHits album. By far PoW was replayed more than ANY other album (even GUP, of which I only played once or twice) on the trip, the sound in my car was pure adrenaline when played loud or down low. Now that was a GREAT trip.
Lorraine
This thread wouldn't be complete without me gushing over The Weapon :madra: from the Grace Under Pressure tour dvd.  Neil was at his most handsome. Come to think of it, they all were, but that's only in my eyes. :) ;)

I love the song anyway, but the energy of that performance makes it especially good. The drum break in that song is one of my favourite things ever.

The way it was filmed and put together - to me, it captured their intensity during the song so well. I've been trying to get the drums to that song for over a year now. Not having great success, but it's fun trying.
