Let's gush over Rush! :)

We can gush over a particular song or songs.

We can gush here about anything Rush.

I will gush about Xanadu right now.

I haven't listened to the song in a few weeks now. Someone mentioned the bootleg St. Louis '80 in the bootleg section. I remembered not caring much for the bootleg, but dug it out to listen to it again, and am I ever glad that I did. :cheerleader: :yay:

Xanadu is perfection.

TSOR is perfection.

Natural Science is perfection.

In fact, I will go so far as to say this bootleg sounds better than Exit...Stage Left or even R40. The sound is crystal clear and precise and concise and crisp.

A computerized clinic for superior cynics  That Neil! He sure can coin a phrase or two.

That's all for now. I'm think of more to gush about.

And this is the reason why I love these bootlegs. I just heard Alex do something at almost the end of Natural Science with his guitar during the last 16 seconds of the song that I never could hear before.

Gush over Rush.

If I had to gush then I'd start by saying that every song on Grace Under Pressure is beautiful. There's a certain mood to the whole album... very adult in a way that their previous albums weren't, particularly. It doesn't make a lot of sense to other people when I try explaining it, but it's a romantic album. I love everything Alex does on Red Sector A. I love Geddy's voice from Signals to Presto, but especially the way he sounds on GUP. Such a pretty vibrato!

Which songs in particular regarding his vibrato? I agree he was a real triller back then.

Not a super huge fan of GuP and I trace that back to the production. Because all of the live versions I have heard from that period sound vastly better than the album versions. BUT I will say that I really dig The Enemy Within and Distant Early Warning. I think had Broon or Peter Collins at the board, GuP would have been a much better sounding album. It is a shame cause there are a few really good tunes there to work with. Kid Gloves and The Body Electric are cool too.

As for gushing ... well where do I start? I guess I will gush over VT! The remixed version is my go-to version of the album now and my wife and I can pop it in on a car drive and run through the entire album. The only tracks I do not dig are Peaceable Kingdom and Freeze. Everything else I have played a million times it seems. Just a really on fire record. The heavy Rush had returned! No keyboards! (not that I hate them but it was nice to hear the album without them.) Ceiling Unlimited, Vapor Trail, Nocturne, How it Is ... Good good stuff.

Will, what live versions do you think are better than the album (Grace Under Pressure, not VT)?

I have the St. Louis bootleg on vinyl, but it only contains 2112, La Villa, Nat. Science, and one other song (thinking In The Mood with drums. Drums is definitely in there). I guess I should get the whole thing. Would love to hear the Xanadu as the rest is sheer awesomeness.

Oh, you should get the whole thing. If you love Xanadu, you will love this version of it. As I said, the whole bootleg is so crisp sounding. I heard things in songs I never heard before.

They put out so many great songs since 1974. A rotation so vast I can listen to them almost daily without having to over plays songs. It's smart music not just songs aboot scoring chicks, pubic lice and farts.

You are so right, John Rogers. :codger:

Not a public lice among the vast discology.

I agree about GUP album version being lackluster compared to live.

I enjoy Hawaiian Under Pressure. The official Grace Under Pressure Tour is great too.

I especially love how he sounds on Afterimage and The Enemy Within; his vibrato is very subtle (not operatic or anything, haha), but it's there. He colors his voice in a way that makes it sound lively, young, but intelligent. I can't get enough.

The longer time goes on, the more I wonder why they have a larger fan base.

Well, they do have that whole greatest band ever thing going on.

Big hits that are staples on the radio, longevity and reputation as one of the best live acts in rock all play a huge factor in keeping the fan base strong.

Don't you love all of a sudden loving a Rush song you formerly didn't care much for?

That's me and Marathon. I used to hate it. Now I love it.

Always loved that one. The chorus, Geddy's playing and Alex's solo are brilliant. It was great to see them play it on the Time Machine Tour.

That's what I was watching - the video bootleg from the Time Machine tour - Madison Square Garden - when the audience sang along on almost every song. If you listen closely, you can hear ReGor singing. He was there.  ;)

I just popped in here to gush over Rush.

Here is an especially fierce version of The Camera Eye.

http://youtu.be/jYa1auYQrOY

:hi: I'm so happy to see you! Where have you been??

Thanks for gushing with me! Remember the good old days when we'd all gush together on a regular basis??

Edit: GM, I'm going to see if I have that Hershey show. I'm always looking for good versions of the song.

I was at that Hershey show. If there's a really good audio bootleg of it I'd like to know!

I haven't been around because frankly, this place has been a bit of a bummer ever since the end of R40. I still love to gush over Rush, though!

Can you manage a 36-second video? You won't be disappointed by this short clip entitled "Geddy Having Fun!!" :D

No. Can't watch anything anymore. Comes back as "error" all the time, But the good news is that next week (hopefully) Comcast will be coming here and I will have high speed.

I'll look and see what I have for that show tomorrow and let you know if I have anything.

GM, is that your personal video from the Hershey show or is it from a bootleg?

That's from a bootleg. I was up in the rafters for that one, trying not to go crazy when I couldn't get up and bop to Leave That Thing Alone.

Ahhhhhh, I love :rush:!
