Star Trek's Independent Productions

It shouldn't be a surprise though, nobody had any problems with Axanar until they saw it actually looked / is good.

Thank about it:

They raised a million dollars to help fund it

It looks almost as good or the same as a movie that takes $200 million to make

It actually adheres to what Star Trek is all about.

Creativity? Heart?!

We can't have that! Send out the Ceast and Desist letter and the team of lawyers!!

On the other side, we have a destroyed Vulcan, an uninspired reverso-ripoff of TWoK in Into Darkness, and a Beastie Boys music video. In a weird way I'm glad that many Star Wars fans are getting to see what Jar Jar Abrhams did with the New NEW Hope part 7. In a lot of ways, it's the same exact thing he did with 2009's Star Trek. Both movies I liked, but it is what it is I guess.

And the new series in 2017- which will likely but oh hell I hope not- follow the new Abrhamsverse and leave our 24th century heroes and deeds in the shitter, never to have even existed. Let's add to this that it's going to not even be on friggin' TV and some new streaming shit not called Netflix, Hulu, or anything else that people have actually heard of before. :(

Love Star Trek Continues. Had no interest in fan productions before then. Was/am looking forward to Axanar as well, if CBS/Paramount doesn't kill it off. Would be a shame, and a mistake. I'd never give my money to them again at least.

Well Ken I checked out Pilgrim to Eternity and found it watchable with some genuine brilliant moments. Yes you can't judge this by professional Paramount standards. I hope they tweak the casting in future episodes some actors didn't work for me. Michael Forest was a real treat.

I agree with all of that.

It's the only one I've seen but I thought it was a respectable tribute.

What did you think of McCoy?

Been so long since I've seen it. What I remember is that the original series' tone was there, Forest did a good job reprising that role, and some of the cast members were ok OR not even close. But even with some of the cast being off, it didn't bug me enough to not be able to enjoy that episode.

I reckon it's like making a no-budget movie with you and your buddies. Sure, they suck at acting but they're right there and want to be in it so you kind of have to let them be a part of it.

I found McCoy almost unwatchable and as a director I would have the actors tone down the forced accents.

I enjoyed watching Larry Nemecek in that role for the first two episodes, as his passion for the franchise more than made up for his lack of acting chops. Chuck Haber took over the role of McCoy in the third episode, and did a much better job representing the role. Still... I sort of miss Larry's cheesy, folksy take on McCoy.

Star Trek Continues finished it's run tonight, finally giving the Original Series a well deserved proper finale.

It was a great ride from Vic Mignona and crew. They wrapped things up wonderfully, handing the future of the TOS crew back to the movies seamlessly.

Sad to see them wrap though. Continues marked the greatest fan production I've seen. I hope some other inspired, from-the-heart fan series can pick up the mantle.

I've long had an ambition to animate some of my own Star Trek adventures. Maybe it's time to give that some serious thought. The sky's the limit.

Looking forward to watching To Boldly Go part 1 and part 2 this weekend. I really love this production. So wish it would continue. Wish CBS would just fund them and keep it going. I don't think it would eat into Discovery's viewership as they are so different in about every way. Too too bad it wasn't allowed to continue.
