TSOR moved into that backburner type of song for me.

Once a song has been beaten to death by radio, and my own plays, not the same

Love it live in person, but honestly have not listened to TSOR on my own in years.

Subdivisions means more because I was in high school when it came out, and Young high school...9th grade.

No song caught that time more than this.

If you hate this song it's because you were getting beat up by us cool kids with the weed

The feel of the song really determines it for me.

TSoR is a hopeful, energetic rocker. Subdivisions?!? Life sucks, then you die kinda vibe.

TSoR easily.

I don't think either song is particularly happy if you analyze the lyrics. TSOR to me sounds more like a commentary about how the allure of fame leads to downfall of artistry disguised as an upbeat and happy song while Subdivisions is a commentary on things like bullying, peer pressure and life in mundane middle-class suburbia.

Analyze all you want bud. This is about experience. I'll bet you have no real clue what Neil's speaking about because your life experience lacks this experience. Have you ever hopped in your car in the morning and searched for a radio station playing that special song you want to hear? And then upon chance, you get your wish of a song you love, with the sun beaming through the windshield. At this point, all is right with the world. Possibilities seem endless. Joy sets in your heart.

If you had experienced this, you would know exactly what Neil is speaking about.

There is nothing "down" about Subdivisions! The song rocks! :haz:

Exactly it for me...I think the lyrics in Subdivisions hit home to so many people so there's a lot of emotion behind those lyrics. Love TSOR, but I don't get as revved up about the commercialism of radio. Screw radio ;)

Yes...now make sure you use the Visa debit card that's only worth $25-$50 so they just can't keep charging your account for as long as they want.

I do love and appreciate TSOR, but I feel like my enthusiasm for it peaked a long time ago. Subdivisions, on the other hand, I seem to love more and more every year the older I get. Especially that original version on Signals. While I don't love Brown's production on much of that record, it suits the arrangement and vibe of Subdivisions perfectly. I can't imagine the song sounding any better than it does.

Whenever I start to wonder if I'm getting tired of the Spirit of Radio, I just crank it on headphones. Every choice in that song, in terms of arrangement and sonics, is amazing.

Perfect opener to the last great album of the 70s.

The Spirit Of Radio

Subdivisions is the single most overrated Rush song I have ever heard. Never particularly cared for it at all.

The Spirit Of Radio is a terrific song. One of the bands best "hits".

Other than the lyrics, there's not alot redeeming about Subdivisions. Plus it's boring as f**k to play compared to TSOR.

You expect me to be able to pick between those two? I really don't think I can.

"The Spirit of Radio" is really awesome and it rocks and holy heck was it fun to experience live!

But at the same time, there's just something about "Subdivisions" that keeps drawing me back to it.

But I don't want to let "The Spirit of Radio" down.

I seriously can't pick. They're both among my all-time favorites.

TSOR never wears off for me. Stone Cold Classic every time with an opening that never fails to lift me up and a closing that never fails to retain that cheer.

Subdivisions, while easily one of my favs, wears off after a while for overplay and lack of anything like the surprise reggae ending of TSOR. Once I've heard it enough times, it can lose its punch. Probably just how much the synth carries the song and leaves out the guitars, whereas every instrument in TSOR is interlocking and pushing and pulling between each other blissfully. Basically Subdivisions can get monotonous in sections, the band seeming to haphazardly remember they have guitars after nearly all synth filled sections. I love the synth, don't get me wrong, but the best of the best music doesn't tend to let any one element dominate so much IMO.

At this moment, I choose Subdivisions. But at any other time, I might choose TSOR, or I still might choose Subdivisions. I love both of these songs, and it is always a back and forth battle between them for me, but Subdivisions came in first.
