Two of Rush's greatest songs going head to head....This is probably going to be a pretty exciting and close song battle! For me, as much as I love The Spirit Of Radio, Subdivisions is simply one of Rush's best, I don't care what Mike Portnoy or any other Rush fan who hates the synth period says, Subdivisions is up there with 2112 and Hemispheres in terms of greatness.

TSOR is great song but Subdivisions is my # 2 Rush song. Only 2112 beats it. So my vote goes to Subdivisions.

BTW - although I have never really sat down and ranked most of Rush's songs (the very bottom and very, very top I have) I would say TSOR would be around #11. Thats in order of preference and just off the top of my head.

No Rush show is complete without either of these songs, but The Spirit of Radio is the better of the two. It's such a bouncy, energetic song. Not to mention it's the first song I ever heard live in concert. Ah, memories…

Both great songs. But The Spirit of Radio wins pretty handily, with me.

I have times when I just love Subdivisions, and others when it's not as thrilling.

Yes, I don't rank TSOR nearly as high as others here but I guess the world would be a boring place if we all thought the exact same way.

Good point. And let me tell you, my top 10 would have one song in it that would have some folks wondering what I was smoking (no - thats not a hint that it would be A Passage to Bangkok). In fact it would proably have at east 2 head scratchers.

Someday, if I ever start a thread ranking Rush's songs I will spill the beans on what those songs are. For now its a secret.

No song can surpass TSoR for me.

Headlong Flight maybe?

Although Headlong Flight is a phenomenal song, it doesn't have the 35 years of emotion and relationship behind it like TSoR does.

There is a certain majesty to Spirit of Radio

The feel of the song really determines it for me.

TSoR is a hopeful, energetic rocker. Subdivisions?!? Life sucks, then you die kinda vibe.

TSoR easily.

I don't think either song is particularly happy if you analyze the lyrics. TSOR to me sounds more like a commentary about how the allure of fame leads to downfall of artistry disguised as an upbeat and happy song while Subdivisions is a commentary on things like bullying, peer pressure and life in mundane middle-class suburbia.
