Vocally, what do you think were Geddy Lee's best and worst concerts?

Being a singer for over 40 years, live, Geddy's had his up and down days. But what do you think was the highest high, and the lowest low? (Thumbs up if you know the song referenced)

For me, here are the best and worst.

For best, i'd say it's a three way tie.

Seattle (3/28/1976): Amazing singing through and through. Nails all the high notes (Even the "Wonders in the world" parts in Anthem, which he almost NEVER did!) and sounds extremely powerful.

Passaic (12/10/1976): Absolutely spot-on. 2112 is, vocally, the absolute best version EVER.

Houston (10/22/1977): ON FIRE! Starts out great in the first few songs, but by the time they hit Something For Nothing, he's amazing! That and Cygnus X-1 never sounded better!

As for worst, the easy winner is Landover (4/26/1994). I have NO idea what was happening during this concert (Probably ill) but he sounds absolutely HORRENDOUS! His tone is very raspy and ragged, and he fails on most key notes in songs. Limelight, Closer to the Heart, and The Trees are just some of the disasters.

Post yours below.

Out of the officially released concerts, Geddy probably sounded best on Grace Under Pressure Tour. Great control, great vibrato, and, at least to me, a very attractive vocal tone.

Was thinking GUP Tour also.

I haven't listened to the Seattle show in '76, but I have heard the rest. All great, but for me, the 1980 St Louis show that was broadcast on FM radio all across North America will always be Geddy's best. For worst? I don't even think about that... call me a fan boy!

His post has been done before but I would say from 1980 on the sounded his best with my favorite vocal performance being rhe Power Windows album.

This is about best and worst LIVE concerts.

I believe that CP show the OP references was Geddy being sick (IIRC, they were scheduled to play in Hampton but this concert was cancelled).

One bad show that comes to mind is the Inglewood 11.26.96 show. It was as if Geddy couldn't control his singing (but if my memory serves me right, this trouble may have really started 3 nights before in San Diego and was certainly showing up the next night in Las Vegas).

Some of those very early CP shows had Geddy singing quite well (see some of those early Hemispheres renditions) and on the Philadelphia 4.30.94 show he nailed that last high note in The Trees.

Correct. Geddy was sick at the show I mentioned.

For the early Counterparts, most of the Hemispheres i've heard have him struggling bad. Can you tell me some specific dates where he sings it well? The only good one i've heard was 3/8/1994. Xanadu also really has him struggling.

For Inglewood, it doesn't sound that bad. Most of the songs i've heard are good.Red Barchetta is solid, The Trees is performed great, Red Sector A is good, Closer to the Heart is nice, 2112 has a bit of struggle, but sounds fine, Natural Science starts out poor, but gets better, The Spirit of Radio is fine, and Tom Sawyer is solid.

The way he sang Hemispheres in San Diego on the CP tour was excellent IMO.

TMT is easily the worst. There are lots of bests, though, in different ways.

My first, and probably least-best show.

He had his shit in gear for R40. I went in with almost zero setlist knowledge. I was surprised when the Hemispheres prelude intro came on. I was more surprised when it sounded better than the Counterparts Tour versions.

I think that Time Machine Cleveland was pretty bad. Also, Clockwork in Hamilton, Ontario. I remember hearing one show from (I think) the Power Windows tour where he sounded awful.

R40 Kansas City he was ON FIRE. Sure, maybe he can't hit all those notes in Lakeside Park, but he hit many more than he did on the official DVD release. Camera Eye was amazing (it's the version on R40 Live)

If the question was posed for this decade, I say Snakes and Arrows.

Much better than anything that followed.

I thought Geddy sounded great at the R-40 concert I attended. Better than the video.

Snakes was the last decent tour for his voice. After the inner ear/sinus thing he got during TM, he hasn't been the same since.

Disagree. Personally, I think he still sounds great! Only issue is the yodeling, and that's only a BIG issue on his worst nights (R40 Toronto, why were you chosen...)

I was amazed at his voice at our R-40 concert. It was great. Then I get the DVD and had a hard time believing it was the same tour.

Yeah he sounded better on R40 than on CA's. Much less yodeling and muffled words but his voice is still pretty shot.
