Neil's Replacement

I know this. But, it still sucks. I can still mourn the end of something perfect and amazing.

Oh sure, but since Neil has been saying he wanted to quit touring since the 90's, I'm surprised they made it this long.

Don't worry, I bet there will still be some new music coming.

How about this kid

Oh, yeah! He's awesome. I'm subscribed to his channel, and he is a really talented kid. He's also done Tom Sawyer, YYZ, and Working Man.

It makes the most sense to leave on top, do you think them playing Losing it was coincidence?

no.

40 years and I think fans are being selfish for asking for more.

He isn't 100% and it affects his pride.

They answer to no one now let them record and when Neils bored then watch for an Odd show

but they don't need the money and they don't have to market themselves let them sail into history!

It makes the most sense to leave on top,

If that was the case they would have called it a day round about 1987 ;-)

Or perhaps with their final album of the 1970s, Permanent Waves ;)

Hah...yeah you could argue that.

I was meaning that they should have retired after the last album that was actually worthy of the brand, which for me was HYF

No. Don't forget that they need a lyricist as well. Unless you want geddy to return to writing lyrics telling women what time it is and that he fancies some sex.

Is Bernie Taupin still alive?... ;)

I had a dream once that Rush were playing live and Neil couldn't make the show. I was wandering around backstage Geddy and Alex come along and push a pair of sticks into my hands and tell me they won't go on unless I agree to play in Neil's place.

The concert sucked.

I will not be replacing Neil.

Tony! I'm doing pretty good! Sold the old house, got out of the mid-west, moved back across the country and are buying a new house. So, busy, but good! How are you doing?

The more I think about it, and the more I hear from Ged and Al, I believe at a minimum, Ged and Al will write and record some new material before long. Whether or not Neil will want to record is anyone's guess, but I have a feeling that by the time they get around to being ready to record, Ged and Al will have it in their heads that they'll record new material with another drummer. (but not under the name Rush). Once that decision is made, Neil will want back in... at least to the studio. This is nothing more than gut feeling but as much as Neil refers to himself as retired, I think that subconsciously, Neil likes being "wanted"...... and once he's not, he may regret how he's positioning himself now.

I'm honestly against replacing band members.

Saw Drowning Pool in 04 after they replaced the singer following his death. Not only were the vocals off but with the new singers personalitu it just wasn't the drowning pool I had fallen in love with in middle school.

Then there's Metallica. They lost their passion for music following Cliff's death. They replaced him just to keep the paychecks rolling in.

Given that Rush at least to me stands against mainstream commercialism and mass consumerism replacing Niel would feel like a gut punch to most of the die hard rush fans out there.

Did everyone watch the new video of Ged and Al with Rolling Stone? This time they were more forthcoming with the truth about what's going on. Clearly, they want to record and tour. Clearly, Neil is resistant and possibly ready to retire. So, I dare ask the question and let the daggers fly.

Any chance they would continue with a new drummer? If they want to continue, why let one person sink the ship? You could see in the interview how frustrated Geddy is with Neil. Surely there's lots of banter behind the scenes, or complete radio silence.

I'll say this, they gave up their careers for Neil and waited 4 years for him to grieve, and that was the right thing to do. The least he could do in return would be to give them another record and a proper farewell tour. I'd venture to say he's selfish and doesn't care how they feel or what they want, or the fans.

I think it's time for the fans to stop being selfish.

Enjoy the gifts RUSH has given us.

Remember fondly the live shows and experiences...

And move on with your lives.

RUSH doesn't owe you anything.

You make a good point. But, imo, the difficulty in doing so stems from the fact that there's been no closure... at least not a consensus on it. Ged and Al have made it clear they'd like to continue in some form. Neil doesn't seem interested. That puts fans who are hoping for more in a difficult spot...Moving on is easiest when the band and management make it clear that they're done. Until that happens, this is what we'll be faced with.
