Whatever the technical trivia of what decade it belongs to, it's an album for the ages, eternal.

An explosion of musical ideas, a tour-de-force of musicianship and utterly unique.

We already have a dedicated thread for Permanent Waves being 70's or 80's, let's keep it away from ruining celebrating how great it is!

If someone incorrectly mentions the 80's I will politely correct them. Permanent Waves wasn't "born" January 14th, it was released for sale to the public. The album existed before January 14th 1980.

Best RUSH album ever!

We celebrate my daughter's birthday on the same day each year as the day she was released from her mother's womb. We call that her birthday. :)

Exactly you don't celebrate the day she was taken home from the hospital, hugs and holding to be shared with family and friends.

Right. We celebrate the day when she was available for public consumption. ;)

It's an excellent album, but I admit to feeling a bit let down when it came out. I was ready for side-long epics.

Same here.I already had Hemispheres but for some reason passed when it came out and not getting it till after signals(I think).I do remember hearing Free will on the radio and thinking I got to get that.Still not a huge fan of SOR and Entre Nous is just ok.The rest is brilliant.I still feel the album is over too soon but I rather have that than an extra thirty minutes of dross.

So if your birthday is in January, the proper way to celebrate it would be in December or even earlier?

What's in your cigars?

Albums don't have birthdays. The album physically existed before January 14th.

It sure did. Official release date was January 1st. 1980 (not the 14th) and the music existed and was played in the 70's.
