the debate was over a long time ago for me, clearly an 80s album with emphasis on the Timeless. yeah was written in the last few moments of the 70s but nothing about it sounds 70s at all to me, definitely early 80s but could have recorded yesterday or tomorrow, ages beautifully. peace out

Just listening to R40. As Ged is introducing Jacob's Ladder, he states we are on the "VERGE" of the 70s. Not in the 70s, the VERGE. SO!!!! If Ged thinks its an 80s album, then it darn well is. He is Geddy freakin Lee.

Geddy Lee doesn't know Tai Shan from Shinola, he still thinks Neil Peart is an active professional drummer!

How can anyone interpret "verge of the 70s" as 80s? That doesn't make sense. The verge of something is still part of that something. So Geddy obviously agrees it's a 70s album, which it factually is as any sane and logically thinking person knows. Otherwise Geddy would have said "beginning of the 80s" (or something like that) if he agreed with the delusional 80s crowd, but of course he does not cause he's not delusional.

Nope. The verge of something is not still part of that something. noun 1. the edge, rim, or margin of something: the verge of a desert; to operate on the verge of fraud. 2. the limit or point beyond which something begins or occurs ... By definition then, Geddy believes it is on the edge of the 70's but hasn't crossed the border into the 70s. Didn't give my opinion on it. Only Geddy freakin Lee's opinion on it. He is the definitive authority here. He is Geddy freakin Lee. And a 1 and a 2 and a 1-2-3- a 1-2-3. :laughing guy:

Geddy also said they were moving onto something from A Farewell to Kings, after already having just finished playing a song from A Farewell to Kings.

I guess he's not always reliable ;)

Doesn't matter. Lee's memory can't be trusted. It wasn't on the verge of anything. The creative labor of love that we know as Permanent Waves was firmly planted in the fertile ground of a fully-defined moment that we can all refer to as "late 1979." The decision to release it on the "verge," or whatever - January 1980 - was something else entirely. Nothing to do with the sonic magnificence and triumph of those six lustrous tracks.

Is that similar to Tai Shan on a Shingle?

So true. How could they sound eighties in the seventies?

Toymaker, thank you. My first hearty laugh in weeks.

I was just looking for a picture of a crystal ball, but when I saw that one the search was obviously over.

That actually sounds like it could be kind of good. Maybe with peanut sauce.
