Now THIS is how you finish games! Not with Hail Mary magic, not with desperate last-minute drives, but with power, determination, and a punishing rushing attack! The Green Bay Packers rediscovered their Lambeau Field dominance (at least for one week) by throttling the Dallas Cowboys on a rainy December Sunday afternoon.

The biggest news of the week was that of Head Coach Mike McCarthy taking back the offensive play-calling duties, and it sure did look like it made a difference. The Packer offense dominated the Dallas defense for most of the game. Only a failed 4th & goal attempt at the one-yard line marred a solid perfromance.

Aaron Rodgers and his oft-criticized wide receivers found some success against the Dallas secondary, but the big story was running backs EDDIE LACY and JAMES STARKS running over and through the Cowboys. Give credit to the offensive line for getting their mojo back and opening up big holes for the "Thunder & Lightning" rushing duo. The support that Lacy and Starks have for each other is a joy to watch. When one of them scores, the other couldn't be happier. They compete for carries, and yet it's a very healthy competition.

The defense made sure that Cowboy quarterback Matt Cassel had a horrible day. Constant pressure and some hard sacks forced Cassel into making bad throws. Several bad drops by his wide receivers didn't help him either. Only two big runs by running back Darren McFadden gave the Cowboy offense any spark. A clutch INT in the end zone by Sam Shields denied the Cowboys' first attempt to score, and solid coverage on Dez Bryant and his fellow receivers all game long kept the offense off the field. What was also impressive was the increasingly great special teams play by gunner JEFF JANIS, who has been crushing punt returners the second after they catch the ball. His fast and furious coverage of punts and kickoffs has been thrilling Packer fans all year long.

The Packers are feeling mighty good right now, but they have much work to do. Two straight road games to the West Coast are next, especially in Arizona. The Packers want that #2 seed and a bye week, and they want them BADLY!!

2015 Green Bay Packers Season: Week 15

Packers 30

Raiders 20

John Kuhn knows how to spike a football! He always comes to play and give 100%, and when the veteran fullback scores a rare touchdown, he LIKES IT!!

The Green Bay Packers may have beaten the Raiders on a rainy Oakland afternoon, but they sure didn't beat their many critics! The Packer offense was once again a dysfunctional mess - especially in the first half. Aided by two INT's by Oakland quarterback Derek Carr, the Packers jumped out to a 14-0, but it was a huge struggle after that. A fumble by James Starks, several dropped passes, and a non-existant running game frustrated the Packers to no end.

The second half saw some better play from the offense, and the defense stymied Carr and the Raider offense in the 4th quarter. Still, the Packers showed that they are not firing on all thrusters. Given 1st & goal at the Raiders' 1-yard line, the once-mighty Packer offense couldn't score a touchdown. That is a NOT good when you're preparing to enter the post-season.

A win is a win, but they can expect an early departure from the playoffs if they keep playing like this....... :eh: :eh:

Packers are done playing dog pile teams. And from the looks of it yesterday, they aren't in the same conversation against any of the elite playoff teams. They hit a brick wall called reality.

Someone I don't think we'll be seeing pretty pictures from the game yesterday. Unless someone has a Cardinals thread.

I think the Packers will make it past the Skins but after that they should be toast. There were games this season where they didn't play any better than the Bears.

They lost all three home division games........an amazing, incredible, and outrageous feat! I don't see them beating the Redskins. Their offense is too dysfunctional. Their defense is pretty good, but they have to score points on offense.

Gotta reload, get Jordy Nelson back, and have their offensive linemen heal up. Next year should be much better. :sundog:

It looked like backyard football there toward the end. Reminded me of the classic Cosby routine...

Well, looky here....they ain't done yet!! The Green Bay Packers, deserving targets of criticism for their struggles this year, let the NFL world know that they haven't quit, that they're still here to WIN!!

Capping off a truly WILD card weekend, in which all visiting teams won, the Packers shook off a dreadful 1st quarter and dominated the Washington Redskins with solid defense and an offense that rediscovered its power.

After falling behind 11-0, the Packers tightened up their pass protection, gave Aaron Rodgers time to throw (especially to James Jones), and exploited a vulnerable Redskin secondary. On defense, a ferocious pass rush against Redskin QB Kirk Cousins stymied a very good offense (in particular TE Jordan Reed), and created a game-changing sack-fumble turnover. With momentum and confidence on their side, the Packers then shoved the ball down the Redskin defense's throat with Eddie Lacy and James Starks.

A dejected Washington crowd left the stadium, perhaps not knowing that they made NFL history - all four home playoff teams LOST this weekend. It's just more proof that in the NFL Playoffs, anything can happen.

Will the Packers make it happen again in Arizona this Saturday night? The odds are against them, but you just never know......

Fitzgerald saved Ariens azz in that game. Stupid, stupid call to try a pass when Cards where running out the clock...at the level of the seattle pass that got picked in the superbowl. You gave Rodgers 30 extra seconds he never would have had.

I like Ariens swagger but you have to know when to not try something stupid just because you have a hunch.

The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel's Michael Cohen has written a wonderful article on the Packers' General Manager, Ted Thompson. Interviews with friends and former teammates going back to high school are the highlights.

During track season, our coach told us to sit down and take a rest. We got to talking about what we wanted to do when we grew up. When it came to Ted, he said, 'When I grow up I'm going to be the general manager of the Green Bay Packers or the New York Yankees.' That's exactly what he said. We all laughed, and he looked at us like, 'I'm not kidding.' (Danny Harp, former track and football teammate)

You have to do more than tug on Aaron Rodgers' jersey to stop him from throwing a touchdown pass, as Rodgers did on this play!

The Green Bay Packers kicked off their 2016 season with a thrilling, hair-pulling, hot & humid win over a very much-improved Jacksnville team. As it was the first game of the year, both teams had some periods of sloppiness, but both teams played their hearts out on a field where the temp was 110 degrees.....

The Packers looked like they were going to put the game away in the 2nd half, but field goals instead of TD's kept the game close. It took a wonderful last-minute stand by the Packer defense to stop Blake Bortles and the Jaguar offense from talking the game.

Star Of The Game: Jordy Nelson, who made a wonderful return after missing all of 2015. His first TD catch of the year is something for which Packer Nation is truly thankful!!

The Rivalry is officially back!! Like so many Packer teams of the past have done, the 2016 team went to Minnesota and entered the Twilight Zone. Penalties, turnovers, and all-around sloppy play marred what could have been a great game.

Good thing this was only Week 2! The Packers have plenty of time to correct their mistakes and play good, consistent football. Ya don't get any trophies for winning in September!
