Well, folks, with the season underway it's time to get the banter going. I'll be on the Golden State bandwagon, as the Lakers don't even seem like an NBA squad this year. Will anyone be able to stop Golden State's offensive onslaught? Looks like the answer is "no", if last night's comeback performance is any indication. Down 20 in the first quarter, GS came back to beat the Clipper by seven. Back-to-back rings for Curry & Co.?

If you accept that there are an infinite number of universes, the probability of this post jinxing it approaches one. Or does it approach infinity?

Been a Bucks,

Fan since 1971. I don't pay much attention to the NBA like I used to. But it was nice to see Bobby Dandridge have his number 10 jersey retired. He wasn't the greatest player. But was a great go to guy when it counted. There has never been a better combination than Jabbar to Dandridge on the back door pass for the lay up. He seemed to always be in the right place at the right time! :codger: :D

The Hoosier boy Jon McGlocklin was the glue for that team.

You've got to give Kobe credit though, by shooting so much, he increases their chance at the number one pick. It's really quite selfless, this shooting so much thing.

Gotta root for the Sixers now, 'cause I'm a D'Antoni loyalist... Mike is already making an impact, getting Colangelo to bring Ish Smith in. :dweez:

Even if D’Antoni was the driving force behind this trade, Colangelo’s involvement is evident for a couple reasons.

1. This trade is so far outside Hinkie’s track record.

Smith will be an unrestricted free agent next summer, and he’ll sign with whichever team presents him the best offer. That could have just as easily been the 76ers without trading for him as with trading for him.

So, what’s the point of giving up assets for him now?

The 1-30 76ers aren’t going to win anything of note this season. They’re still strong favorites for the No. 1 seed in the lottery, but a little Philadelphia improvement could put the Lakers and Nets in the race.

Hinkie has always valued long-term asset collection over insignificant short-term gains. At some point, Hinkie would have turned focus to the present, but surely not with the 76ers already 1-30 and not by acquiring such a fringe player.

2. D’Antoni and Colangelo are allies, having worked together with the Suns. If D’Antoni wanted Smith, it’d make sense the associate coach would go through Colangelo.

Philadelphia was notoriously weak at point guard with Kendall Marshall and since-waivedTony Wroten just getting healthy and Isaiah Canaan and T.J. McConnell not being ready for major roles. The speedy Smith fits D’Antoni’s up-tempo system and could help create looks for Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor.

But at what cost?

These second-rounders are better than just throwaway picks. The Nuggets are near the bottom of the league this season, and I doubt the 76ers will a huge leap in the standings next season.

Most coaches focus on the present, and Smith helps D’Antoni now. Likewise, the 76ers hired Colangelo to bring immediate credibility.

Smith nudges the 76ers toward that, but losing those second-rounders hurts more in long run.

This trade just reeks of a coach’s influence. D’Antoni was fortunate to have Colangelo in the front office to make the deal actually happen, because I’m nearly certain Hinkie never would have traded those picks for Smith.

Lowly 76ers beat Suns 111-104 for 2nd win of season :dweez:

By JOSE M. ROMERO

Posted Dec 27 2015 1:50AM

PHOENIX (AP) Ish Smith was just traded from New Orleans to Philadelphia, so he knows each win is special. And this one came against one of his former teams.

Smith scored 14 points in the first game of his second stint with the lowly 76ers, who beat the Phoenix Suns 111-104 on Saturday night for just their second win of the season.

"I didn't come from a situation where we were winning a lot in New Orleans, either," Smith said. "For me a win is a win and we have to keep coming closer together, through wins, through losses. If we do that, we will put us in a good position to win games."

Smith, who played 25 games for Philadelphia last season and averaged 12 points and six assists, got the start and was 6 for 15 from the floor. He was acquired in a trade with the Pelicans on Christmas Eve.

Isaiah Canaan scored 22 points and reserve Nik Stauskas had 17 for the 76ers, who went 12 for 27 from 3-point range. Carl Landry added 16 points, and Nerlens Noel added 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Philadelphia (2-30) snapped a 12-game losing streak with its first win since Dec. 1. The Sixers also stopped a 23-game road slide dating to last season.

The Suns lost leading scorer Eric Bledsoe to a sprained left knee in the first half. Coach Jeff Hornacek said Bledsoe had already left the arena for an MRI after the game but added team doctors didn't think it was a torn ACL.

Brandon Knight led Phoenix with 21 points. Rookie Devin Booker scored a career-high 19 points, and Jon Leuer had 14 points and nine rebounds. The Suns have lost four in a row and six of seven.

Bledsoe got hurt with 7:40 left in the second quarter and had to be helped to the locker room. He entered Saturday averaging 20.9 points and had four when he left the game.

"Said a little prayer for him and hope for the best," Suns guard Ronnie Price said. "Never like to see anyone going down on any side. Whatever it is, we'll be behind him and we'll support him through it."

The Sixers built a 16-point lead in the fourth quarter. The Suns got it down to a six-point deficit twice in the last two minutes, but Philadelphia was able to hang on.

Who will get to 70 first?

Warriors with 70 wins or Sixers with 70 losses.

Sixers got another win tonight!

Warriors 29, Sixers 31

With Curry out, GS will have a tough time keeping up with the Sixers.
