Are you Zedlix???

Please be the holy Zedlix...

Nice to meet you, I look forward to the same things!

You named the thread after an Adele song!? GTFO!

JK. Good to have you!

I only learned about this 'Adele' person two weeks ago, and I don't even know any of her songs...I'm into enya, Loreena McKennit, and Sarah McLaughlin.... on the 'new age' side...more into Heart, Pat Benatar and Grace Slick on the Rock side......Nice to meet you, and also be here!

I read the thread for the most part, and no, I'm not Zelix entity, they seemed a bit pre-pubescent to me....I pretty much understand Lorraine's modus operande! ;) :)

NO NO NO!!! This thread was named after a TODD RUNDGREN song from 1972 and his first solo album, "Something, Anything"! Does she sing his song? Good choice of writer if so....

Gayest song ever

Another thing about me. I HATE people who put down other folks because of their sexual preferences. I was raped by a 'friend' just before I started in ninth grade and High school. The 'news' spread like wild fire, and I'm STILL considered GAY by certain people here in my town. Sexual preferences should NOT be a reason to put someone else down. I'm as 'hetero' as a LOT of other males, never got arroused by males, only females. I DON'T mind folks who have other preferences in this area, unless, like the 'friend' forced hisself on me. I used to be a 98 lb. weakling at that point in my life, and not athletic much...the terms GAY or any other stupid spelling of that word, are considered neanderthal by me, so just realize not everyone thinks like you may on this subject...it must be the 'neanderthal' part of the brain being used.....

:hi:

I think we all have our "going away" and "coming back" days here. I thought you were new at TRF, until you tell you're an old member.

It's good to talk anyway.

I hope you're referring to a song about men being attracted to other men, because that's what "gay" means. "Gay" is not an insult or an epithet so please do not use it as such. Doing so labels you as a hateful bigot, and we don't need any(more) of those around here.

No it doesn't. You may be on the progressive leading edge of political correctness but that doesn't mean everybody is ready to follow. Ed may be totally onboard with equality and still choose smack talk he's grown up with. Not every objectionable word is the new n*****.

Hmmm...didn't you come from CP, where homophobia is pretty much mandatory, and the word "ghey" is as common as the word "the"?

The term "political correctness" doesn't even enter into this. If you use the word "gay" as anything resembling an insult you are verbalizing prejudice against homosexuals. There is no world in which this is even remotely okay.

Thanks, but it is what it is. I see no reason to hide tragedy, you NEED others to help sometimes. I guess I don't appear to myself to be a 'victim' as some people do. Like Nobody's Hero, This incident never made me fear the other person's sexuality, it was just one person's attempt to 'control' another, and a lot of the kids at school were just that, KIDS, and I realized even their reactions didn't need to affect me in my life...Thanks for your kindness, though! People like you, with your attitude about this, really DO help!!! I know a LOT of people who need this kind of help and I strive to give it when someone needs it. I'm glad you think the same way! -ORF

Maybe, but it seems most of the rest of the world seems to want to make 'GAY' (or various wrong spellings of the word) a derogatory put down term and even though I don't subscribe to using that word as a derogatory term I understand there are people who will until death, most likely. I just stated I don't like it. I just hope folks here would take that into consideration when posting in a thread of my construction, Fair enough?

Who told you homophobia is the 'norm' at CP? I have not found it that way, but maybe who ever observed that didn't get the attitude over there. I made the same statement there as I have just done here. Please don't act like a neanderthal in one of my threads just because you don't understand or believe in someone else's sexual preferences. To me, it just means someone who is not bothered to try and see the reality around them.

Hello! My name is Lorraine and I hardly post at all.

I'm not going to get into a lengthy debate over this. Ed can defend himself if chooses. I rarely use "gay" or "fag" anymore in trash talk. I've mostly moved on. This is not the hill I want to die on.

Gay is not the first or last word to have multiple meanings or meaning morph over time. For at least a few generations the word has been used to criticize a noun in a light humorous trash talking way. In our current social climate I'm a bit sensitive to speech being limited. To people being told "you can't say that it is offensive". Ralph Peters is a media military expert who called president Obama a pussy. I thought that was beneath the dignity of the office. I wouldn't have used that word on live TV in reference to the president but if someone wants to use "pussy" I'm not going to tell them they can't because it might offend someone with a vagina.

When someone uses the word "gay" in a negative manner, more often than not it has some form of homosexual connotation. Like "this is bad, like gay bad".

Tony R is the worst culprit on this forum, so not sure why anything in this thread has particularly started a poopstorm, when far worse has been said elsewhere by him.

Still confused as to why he attacked me over that bizarre argument, which apparently proved I was transgender or something like that.

Just gotta move on and let the trolls troll.

Yeah, I expected this...sometimes I say stuff even though I know what I'll get back. I'm the same way with words...I'm really a purist when it comes to 'changing' the way certain words get run over and 'apropriated' by sections of the society, GAY is one such term. I don't know why these people decided they needed the word equated to homosexual behavior rather than being extremely 'frolicky' which the term used to be used for up until these folks deemed the Term was going to represent their sexual life style. I was REALLY PISSED about that. I was raised a 'christian' by my parents, Nazarene in denomination, until the age of 19, when I decided to 'explore'.This is when the 'political correctness started to bug me. I liked the word GAY as it used to be used, like 'Happy and Gay', 'Gay Nineties' and such....things that disappeared in the 21st century...(And YES I used to like to go to Farrell's Ice Cream Parlours for that 'feeling' you got from the wait staff dressing up in that style). I know not being able to use 'comfortable words' like this term is offensive to some, but I think ANY word used to HURT someone should be ERADICATED from the lexicon......(My Opinion)

Yeah, it doesn't help to get too embroiled with trolls, Haters gonna Hate, Trollers gonna Troll. It's what makes 'em happy....go figure.
