Xanadu
A poll to decide what? Who likes it, who doesn't, who doesn't care either way...you know, that sort of thing.

Lucas
Hard to tell because by the time they started it, they were pretty much done in my book ... safe to say I never liked the HEYs And truth be told, the comedic **** they did onstage later on was another nail for me The roasting chickens, the attempts at humor in the videos, the witch in Witch Hunt - not good I like my Rush like I like my women - odd, articulate, and from outer space

x1yyz
Back to the OP, I had heard the South American crowds were the one that started the "Hey!", and also the "singing along" to YYZ.

Xanadu
Back to the OP, I had heard the South American crowds were the one that started the "Hey!", and also the "singing along" to YYZ. Thanks...I asked because not only was I curious but my brother asked. He told me when he saw them on the MP tour and also Power Windows that he doesn't remember hearing that, and PW is already 1985. EagleMoon
I wish they'd gotten the HAY horse on the DVD but it didn't start until after they recorded it. But to answer the OP's question it was a long time ago. I vaguely remember it around Signals.
bluefox4000
Judging by bootlegs i think it was the HYF tour. Possibly earlier. if i'm remembering correct. it's been a while since i've listened. Mick

toymaker
wow some people think humor is a bad thing, interesting i started liking rush more when i realized they had a sense of humor! I like humor too, but I do wish it were a bit more subtle sometimes, and without all the slapstick and rubber chicken-style stuff.

So that would imply that Geddy may have kick-started it. I would have thought it was the fans.

So that would imply that Geddy may have kick-started it. I would have thought it was the fans. If you listen to Xanadu from Cygnus Gold, you can hear him faintly yell it out in the background. He really started with the heys in earnest in the eighties. And on a few bootlegs, he was humming along with certain songs. I think Subdivisions was one that I remember. But I don't know when the audience started doing it along to 2112. They may have, as you already said, gotten the idea from Geddy. Maybe he used to do it during that part of the song? I'll listen to some bootlegs and report back.
Lorraine
They are doing it in December of 1982. I didn't hear any heys in any 1981 boots that I randomly chose. I listened to Waltz of the Shreves (1978) and no heys. I think Zumbi is right.
