I'm not sure if you guys have soul-meters, but I don't think any of you can honestly tell me that you can tell whether or not a guitarist has "soul" or not...

I am sorry but i have to name drop here.Back in the eighties iwas trying my hardest to be the next Van Halen.By chance i met a bloke from Texas called Stevie Ray Vaughan and played with him for about half an hour.We played a blues jam and he let me take first solo.Of couse i showed off and virtually did EVH's Eruption over this 12 bar jam.He took next solo and he played one note.I felt like packing my guitar away so powerful was that opening note.He told me later 'That i wasn't a bad guitar player but i played a bit too fast'slow down and think about the notes'.I have never forgot those words.Flash is great and recently saw Malmsteen(see my photo)who was mesmerising in his own ego i am God way,but give me a guitarist who can say something with a couple of notes is forever lasting.Anyway my vote is Slash because he doesn't move me and i think it's more about his image and Kirk! H!,get yer foot off that damn wah-wah.

I don't know about over rated. Maybe over hyped is a good term for some of them anyway. It seems everywhere I go I hear something about Joe Bonamasa. He was even on tv the other day. I guess every once in a while the media needs a white blues hero. For a long time it was Stevie Ray Vaughn. It's like people have to convince themselves that white guys can make music like this too.

The Larry Bird syndrome... :)

I have a dvd of Joe B live and he is good when he plays slow blues but his rockers don't do much for me.

Why would I see him live when I can just watch him on tv? :P I think he was on PBS. Anyway, I know what you mean. I'm sure he's great live but he's not near the top of my list.

A few years ago a guy I used to go to concerts with had an extra ticket to see Eric Johnson so I went. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Maybe not my first choice either and I'm not much into the guitar hero thing but I remember it being really good. This was in the summer of 2011.
