Scoville scale

I was in Vermont over the weekend and bought these scorpion peppers at a farm. They came with a warning.

I took two peppers, made 2 quarts of salsa with them and Holy sh1t !!! Way too hot so I'm redoing the salsa and will only use one of these suckers this time. Even after washing my hand ( twice ) the pepper oil was still on my hands. Note to self: wear gloves next time.

I often use a 650K hot sauce... actually put some in my chili today. Only about a quarter tsp in my bowl does me good...

Worst mistake I ever made was doing the ghost wing challenge a few years ago...eat 12 wings in 12 minutes. RIP my ass.

I did the Blazin challenge at Buffalo Wild Wings, I think their sauce is 350K. That wasn't terrible, but a 650K would be horrible.

Quaker Steak and Lube has triple Atomic and it is really hot, but tastes like crap.

Before the ghost wing extract got painful, the wing sauce itself was actually very tasty, it was like a raspberry jam base mixed with various peppers and the extract. I started feeling it about a wing and a half and a couple minutes in and the taste buds were completely numb from then on.

I love BWW but never get their buffalo sauce...just isn't that good. I usually just get the Hot BBQ or the Mango Habenero and put whatever buffalo sauce I like on wings at home.

I grew some Ghost chilis once. Got some in my eye. I learned the hard way.

I've had good luck this year with habaneros. My yellow scorpion has yet to produce.

Some of the new hybrid peppers are over a million Scoville Units.

One was produced in Charleston SC. Its called the Carolina Reaper. I think its 1.2 million, but since last i checked, I understand there are some now up as high as 1.5 million Scoville units.

I grow peppers and ghost is about the hottest I work with. Gloves are a must. Not just for working with the peppers, but for tending a pepper garden.

I've had Mad Dog 357 Special, which is twice as hot as Mad Dog 357 regular, so about 710k. It's pretty righteous.

I think it's about 600k...still hot as hell.

I used to be able to eat just about anything, and I'd collect all sorts of hot sauces. After battling with crushing heartburn I eased off a bit, and then since I've had kids I rarely eat super spicy food any more. The BWW blazing wings, phaal, or a drop or two of some ridiculous sauce in a chilli is about as spicy as I get now. I even got excited a couple of months ago when my cafetaria started carrying the Habanero Tabasco Sauce.

I heard they get over 2 mil. That's hotter than police grade pepper spray!

I tried a little bit of C. Reaper mash from a burger place. You have to sign a waver to buy Tacos or a burger with the mash on it. A friend of mine was given a sample..........hot stuff. Tasty too.

Ok, 600k does sound about right.

I don't know about peppers, but there's a curry called 'Phaal' - that has 1 million Scoville units.

A curry is a combination of spices and is not a single entity. So, what is the ingredient in this curry that makes it so hot?

I don't know exactly, but someone I knew of had to be spectacularly drunk in order to eat it, and I mean reeeallly drunk. Mind you, that's going back a few years...

No wonder they're so hot, they look like satans pecker.

How do you know what Satan's pecker looks like? Were you taking a peak when he was in the urinal next to you?
