Definitely one of my favorite bands. Amazing songwriters and amazing musicians. Incredible range of styles, too, from heaviness like the Prophet's Song and March of the Black Queen and Sheer Heart Attack to campy (wrong adjective, maybe, but I can't think of the right one)

stuff like Seaside Rendezvous and deeply romantic and elegiac stuff (sometimes all in the same tune). Can't warm up to some of the stuff on the Game and definitely not Hot Space, but great stuff throughout their career.

I was listening to Don't Try So Hard the other day, and knowing how sick he was when he performed that - it's incredible. Chills.

Yeah most of Innuendo is pretty chill inducing.

I listened to the Game recently and was surprised at how well the album did hang together. Not the highest quality material but very enjoyable as a complete entity. Had the vinyl in my parents collction upon release.

Freddie Mercury is my one hero (other than Jesus) whom I haven't met nor will I ever meet. Sure he screwed up sometimes in his life and made some bad decisions here and there, but at the end of his life he realized what he had accomplished so far, and he wouldn't give up his life without laying down as many more heart wrenching, chilling, astonishing vocal tracks as he could because he knew he had a bit more to say, even if others had to write the words for him. He sang on his deathbed. In his life he knew exactly what he was going to do, set out to do it, and he did it all. All of it. I wrote my application essay for my private high school on him (if I recall). I went as him for Halloween last year. Listening to him sing, watching videos of him, reading his quotes. It inspires me deeply, while simultaneously saddening me that I was born after he passed away. The rest of Queen is of course absolutely wonderous as well, but Freddie embodied the collective magic of the band and presented it before the world, reaching both the front row and the lawn chair seats with equal, massive effectiveness. I could probably write forever on just him, but when combined with possibly the most innovative guitarist of all time (certainly moreso than supposed "architect of sound" The Edge), powerhouse percussion machine Roger Taylor, and sneaky, quiet, but mind-bending wonderful bassist John Deacon, the result was inhuman to say the least, and in the most human way possible.

Its highs are incredibly high, and most of its lows are at least decent and nice album tracks. However, I still hold "Coming Soon" to be the definition of filler material. Good thing it's stuck between two of the best tracks on the album, "Save Me" being a personal favorite of mine.

Queen was one of my first and earliest band obsessions. Their sound captivated me.........i never heard anything like it. the big harmonies. Freddie, lol. some people are annoyed by how over the top they were. Um.......that's the point, lol. if you don't like overblown theatrics.......queen are not for you.........move away. Granted Freddie's voice can be little much........but he sounded beautiful on the 70's records. Brian's Guitar. Roger's Drums. John's bass it all worked for me.

i still love the 70's records to this day.

I just can't decide where to rank The Miracle among my top Queen albums. It's definitely better than A Kind of Magic and all the records I have below that, but above it has to face off against the seventies legends, ADATR, SHA, NOTW, QII, and the unbeatable ANATO. I've had those seventies albums so much longer and have grown with them, whereas I just got The Miracle but have immediately loved it to death, unlike my first reactions to ADATR and QII (surprisingly). Decisions decisions.

I like Queen, especially their harder stuff as opposed to their pure theatrical stuff.

Tie Your Mother Down and I Want It All are easily my favorites :haz:

I've always thought this version totally trumps the studio cut:

Quoting myself here to say I think I've done it. I did some light mathematical examination and calculation comparing the tracks and the amounts of greatness between two albums at a time and stopped once The Miracle was found to contain any less greatness than the record it was matched up against. And my heart agrees with my head after looking at the albums this way, so its still quite subjective. My new ranking of the Queen albums I have obtained so far in my chronological approach to collecting their discography (minus Flash):

1. A Night At The Opera

2. Queen II

3. News Of The World

4. Sheer Heart Attack

5. The Miracle

6. A Day At The Races

7. A Kind Of Magic

8. Queen

9. The Works

10. Jazz

11. The Game

12. Hot Space (perhaps their least awesome, but still criminally underrated)

The Miracle is surprisingly solid for a late career release.

Dragon Attack is my favorite off The Game. Also, in high school I remember singing Don't Try Suicide acapella with my friends around the lunch table. Fond memories...

Live Killers is my favorite Queen album. Side 2 is a great example of how well Freddie interacted with the crowd. The album also has a killer version of Spread Your Wings.

Killer Queen was a hit on the radio when I was 11 years old.

My friend and I rode our bikes to a Spectrum Records on the Syracuse University campus.

They didn't have the 45, so I bought the album.

That was it, I was hooked, a full fledged Queen fan and never looked back!

I wish I could tell you just how much joy their music has brought me over the years.

Brilliant band...just brilliant!

I love the Fact that Queen knew who they were from album 1. most bands stagger at first. Queen landed on firm footing

that's amazing to me.

Mick

That's a great was to phrase it. They were always very smart about what they were doing.

What's perhaps even more amazing is that they immediately knew exactly who they were, yet they still evolved and grew into their magic over the course of the next decade.

Dragon Attack is the real great deep cut from the album. Plus it transitions perfectly into Another One Bites The Dust. I actually have a strange tendency to turn the speed up to 45 rpm for Don't Try Suicide, the sped up version is really pretty funny.

The Hot Space tunes they do live actually sound pretty good - Back Chat and one or two others.
