  1. 1. Which is better Rush's A Farewell to Kings & Hemispheres or Queen's A Night at the Opera & A Day at the Races

    • Rush's A Farewell to Kings & Hemispheres
    • Queen's A Night at the Opera & A Day at the Races

Both choices are awesome in thier own respects. I voted for Rush because I am currently on "The RUSH Forum"

Now mabe if I was on "The QUEEN Forum" my vote may have been different, probably not considering Rush is my favorite band and Hemisheres is absolute brilliance. I do enjoy a lot of Queens material and truly believe they were on the cuttng edge of musical creativity, however Rush is my favorite. I may have mentioned that before but it's true.

For those who don't like Queen here, I'd say please keep listening to Queen songs you've never heard before, because the thing about Queen is that they tried so many different styles, so many totally different kinds of music, that I believe there's at least one Queen songs for everyone. And for those who see the magic of Queen in all of their creation, many many more.

Well, I listened to every song posted here and they none of them did anything for me. I like Bohemian Rhapsody, so maybe that's the Queen song that is for me. Also, if a band's music does nothing for you, why would you keep listening to their stuff in order to possible find the one song that does? Seems like a waste of time to me when you could be listening to stuff you enjoy instead.

The thing about Boh-Rhap is that in that single song Queen does absolutely everything they do best (that doesn't involve synths), so there are probably other Queen songs that you would like as well. You should try "The Millionaire's Waltz," "The Prophet's Song," and "The March Of The Black Queen."

I grew up in the UK. Queen are always playing somewhere...and I tried it all and disliked all until I heard Innuendo.

That album hit me in the cardiovascular pump.

Otherwise...I hate Mercury's voice and the bands pomp. I do understand why they are popular though, so don't confuse my disdain with ignorance.

Maybe in time, my appreciation of Innuendo will reach out to more of the bands work.

My favorite Queen song. Anything?

Of course I voted Rush in this poll. My two favorite albums ever, come on!

That's one terrible thing about popularity, it forces many passive music listeners onto the band wagon, it tends to turn away those who care more about their music. I'm so glad I discovered Queen just as I was getting into music, so the popularity and overexposure didn't turn me away before I found the magic.

Nope, did nothing for me. If find nothing musically or lyrically speaks to me with this band. Mercury had a great voice and was a superior showman, that's pretty much the only good thing I find in them.

He had a wide range but I hate his voice for the most part.

And I see why he was a great showman to many but his performances make me wince.

I like the band from the standpoint I respect them as individuals, and just like Hendrix, I admire their talent without being a fan.

You do realize this is the Rush forum right?

That still doesn't stop people from making Rush vs some other band kind of polls though. Usually Rush wins but it can give us something to talk about like this thread has.

Nothing wrong with having a vote between two legendary bands.

I'm voting Queen here, only because AFtK and Hemispheres are not my favorite albums. If we were talking almost any other two Rush albums (emphasis on the almost), my vote would be different.

AFtK and Hemispheres have six total songs that I like: Xanadu, Closer to the Heart, Cygnus X-1 Book I, Circumstances, The Trees, and La Villa Strangiato.

Between ANatO and ADatR, we've got Death on Two Legs, I'm In Love With My Car, You're My Best Friend, Bohemian Rhapsody, God Save the Queen, Tie Your Mother Down, Somebody to Love, and Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy. That's eight.

Yeah, going with Queen.

I 'll RUSH in this matchup. Now, if it were Live Killers over ATWAS, I would take Queen.

:o .... :sigh:

Even though I would not change my vote, there's no way that anyone who has delved into the lives of the men who made up Queen and listened to their music could say that the band is/was overblown.

They were four very, very talented and unique musicians. Brian May is a master on that guitar. And there was only one Freddie. The man was a natural and the audience adored him, and rightly so.
