Did anyone else get a bit angry when...

...viewing photos the next day of opening night in Tulsa?

Some of you may have seen photos as the show was happening. I would have seen some on Instagram, but my phone charger at that time wasn't working and my phone was dead.

So the next day I looked at the photos on Cygnus X-1 and the first few photos looked like the same stage set as the Clockwork Angels tour. My reaction was something like "What the f**k? They're half assing this tour and didn't change anything about the stage"....and then I kept scrolling. I went from anger to pure elation.

Personally...I always thought that the whole stage thing was an overkill deal, and couldn't care less....give me the music and good sound, and who cares what goes on otherwise....

Unless you're doing something like "The Wall" or "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" and it has some "theme" to the entire show.

Well, the R40 stage decor did have a theme.

I think it's good for a band to have some sort of stage decorations. It doesn't have to be extravagant, but something up there is good. Think of it like wearing a nice outfit--sure, you might look fine in just any clothes but you look a little better when you pay attention to what you're wearing.

I remember being online opening night and yeah someone from the side stage was able to take a pic well before the show started and I have to agree I was a little irritated seeing that. But then as the show went on and got the up dates I agree - I realized how cool the idea was and of course this tour was a gem.

Kraftwerk.

Folks, you can expect a Kraftwerk :beathorse: from me the next few days, as I can't get over the genius of Minimum Maximum right now.

Oh, I'm not saying THAT...it's just that the OP was making some comments about it being "ok, doing the same thing" until he realized that they were doing SOMETHING different.... But I've been to shows over the years that the band on stage just was so off the damn charts that they could have had naked babes walking back and forth and I never would have noticed them...

I wasn't disappointed because it had been rumored they were going to go backward in time. It just made sense they'd start off with the new stuff first.

Ah, true. I did feel the same way as the OP. "Oh, I guess they're not doing anything different for this tour. Oh well." Then a few songs later things started to change...

I remember looking through instagram and seeing photos from people who could see the stage behind the giant curtain. One photo was of the three circular video screens on Alex's side before the show started and the caption was "That my friends is three gongs". I cant bash him completely because they did look like gongs from that angle. When I found out they werent gongs I was a bit bummed but quickly got over it.

I am a die hard (35 year) RUSH fan and have seen them 62 times since 1982. Having said that, the second set stage setup (Neils Drums, Doublenecks) along with the songs they played in the second set sold me on going to see this tour. I contemplated not going to see them for the first time ever IF they went out there for a whole show with the same stage prop crap they've been using for the last 20 years (along with Neils boring single bass DW drum setup).

Yeah....a single bass drum is a boring thing... made me hedge on going the past 10 times I went to see them because I was pretty hell bent on seeing him play with two bass drums....

HAHA, ya, that's exactly what I said FK NUTZ. Glad to see you could make a few shows over the years.

I've seen Neil Young play for 2 hours acoustic with 1 spotlight

GREAT SHOW

I've seen Pink Floyd play a Stadium with Pigs the size of Blimps, and Hammers 200 feet tall.

GREAT SHOW.

Meaning: If you have great music, the stage is always secondary.

Yep....pretty disappointed that Neil hasn't added bass drums over the years...he should have like 9 of em by now...would be sooooo much more exciting if he had 9 bass drums...he could have a different logo on each like the boring set has on its shells...that boring first half set...whether they are actually playable or not...9 bass drums. ;)

Initially I thought it was strange but remembering what the theme of this show was probably going to be, I fully expected them to change things around to some extent. (I just didn't expect the changing to happen so frequently).

I agree 100%, but with Rush...you KNOW you're getting that stuff on stage. I was just initially disappointed that it looked like they didn't put much thought into the the stage aspect, regardless of what the setlist was. But like I said, it caught me off guard and I was happy that they DID do something different from the previous tour.

I went into Lincoln spoiler free and will admit I was worried they mailed it in on the stage set and even after a few songs I was still thinking they were gonna go out not too different then the last few tours song wise. Man was I WRONG! and so glad I was, and when they wheeled out Neil's second kit my jaw dropped. No doubt, my thinking went to the other side of what they did and I couldn't be happier it was incorrect. I went from thinking didn't care what the fans desired to knowing they care bigtime! Esp. after I read the tour book! Thanks again guys!!!
