zappafrank
Feels like yesterday I got into Rush (Presto, for me), and I'm sure even moreso for them and their career. So even though the line "our future still looks brighter than our past" sounds as new and fresh as it did when I happened to 1st hear it, like it was yesterday, it's hard to believe where we really are.

blueschica
I had on FBN in the car the other day and was enjoying that song but the irony hit me as well. What's the saying, "The days were long but the years are short," or something like that; I wonder if they feel a little like that now that things are winding up? toymaker
Making Memories is a great tune. Does anyone hear a little riffy thing after the third chord in the main verse part? Also I freakin' love the slide solo on that song.

MMCXII
I was listening to this a few days ago and thought it'd be a great tune for the R40 tour! ..If nothing else then just to see Neil do that quick little high-hat fill that comes out of nowhere..!! EDIT: shit Nevermind, that part is in 'Lessons' lol Edited July 14, 2015 by MMCXII
Relayer2112
I love the slide guitar solo in Making Memories. I wish he would have done more stuff like that. I think Headlong Flight would have been much better if he'd have used a slide as I even think he uses an open string tuning for that one.

I think about that pretty often- all of the music we talk about of theirs that is between 35 and 40 years ago, now- do you think they would have believed it if you told them around the time of FBN and CoS that we'd be discussing that stuff with such reverence, in the year 2015? Crazy! It's many a career musician's dream, I think.

Almost unheard of especially with all of the original members (obviously not counting John Rutsey)

Yet, on the other hand, I wonder if it's frustrating for them, always having to play the old stuff, because of the demand for it.

I don't think they've let themselves be frustrated by that; I think they know that lots of people would go nuts to hear a bunch of the old stuff, but the guys in the band have always been realists, and I think Geddy has not wanted to strain himself vocally on a lot of that old material. Rush has never been a nostalgia act, even after having been around for 40+ years. The R40 tour was the one time that they've looked at things that way at all, I think and said to themselves, you know, okay- what kinds of things do we want to do in order to pay respect to our entire history of work, our entire catalog? And they went out and did it (in grand style, if you ask me).
gypsy muse
I totally agree! I know I'll be happy for whatever they may give us in the future, classics or not.

Fridge
Fantastic song from a criminally underrated album (it is by NO MEANS their worst). I must admit, when I discovered them, the first "new" album for me was Permanent Waves, and I would never have thought they would still be here 35 years later.
JARG
Another ironic line is from Best I Can Rock and rollin's a scream, making millions my dreamWell I do that a lotI'll just give it a try, won't let good times pass me byThey're all I've got
Slim
My original vinyl copy of FBN didn't have the sheet with the lyrics. I couldn't work out what Geddy was singing on the "won't let good times pass me by" part. With my guitar strapped me-by? Pardon? I love that song, they played it as a last encore at my first Rush gig. Happy days.
hcm
FBN was my intro to Rush, I was 10 years old, it hit me on a visceral level, love every song on it for different reasons, love still 40 years later, for many of the same reasons, love it.

toymaker
It drives me nuts watching the youtube cover versions - none of those players really get the feel of the song down. It's a funkier strum, with a way more energetic attack on the strings. Just saying.
