questions for single attender

Recommended Posts

Hello all.

I'm afraid the topic is grammatically correct but..

I'm going to attend upcoming Vancouver show. It will be my second Rush show and the first one was GUP tour 1984 in Tokyo. I'm really excited but at the same time a bit anxious. My husband let me go because he knows my devotion for the band and also the fact that it might be their last tour, but we couldn't afford any other to go with me (both economical reasons and there's no other Rush fans in my family or friends) so I travel alone. So the questions are..

1. When you leave your seat, say ,go to bathroom or merch stand, is it safe to leave the luggage(tourbook or something) on your seat?

2.When to back to the hotel, is it safe to use public transportaions?

Vancouver show starts sometime around 8:30 so the show will end around midnight, so I'm a bit anxious.

Sorry for the lame questions and my English.and thanks in advance.

I understand your anxiety. I'm female and have attended a lot of Rush concerts alone. I think you'll be fine. Vancouver is a pretty safe city in general as long as you use common sense. Most Rush fans are very nice and if you have any trouble don't be afraid to ask someone. I have left things under my seat when I've made a bathroom break with no problems.

You'll be fine. I left a shirt on my seat leaving the show in Newark of all cities (very bad-news city if you aren't smart) and came back for it 20 minutes later. It was still there! So leaving stuff on your seat DURING the show for a bathroom break is probably okay. As for transport and hotels, from what I understand Vancouver is a very modern and safe city. So no issues there, as long as you don't accidentally take the wrong bus and wind up in Seattle. The show will likely start before 8:30, so you won't be there till midnight…more like 11ish. Don't worry, you'll have an awesome time!

I gotta say you are some great fan there. And it is a shame you must go alone. But at least you are going.

I would never leave anything on my seat during the show or during the break. Chances are very good nothing happens. But it can and to ask for it to happen is to leave stuff for someone to take.

You should only bring a small purse or something you can carry with you on your person.

Leave you baggage and any other stuff you do not need in your hotel room. Carry only what you must have. My wife takes a small shoulder bag and never puts it down anywhere. I have worn a fanny pack and it works very well.

I don't know Vancouver, but if its anything like the other big cities in the US, common sense is your best friend.

I've travelled from Europe to several shows in the USA (NYC/Newark/Dallas) and Canada (Halifax/YYZ) on my own to see Rush and all trips to and from the shows went well :)

If the venue in Vancouver is close to a respectable hotel then you could go the lobby there and ask a staffmember to call you a cab. That way you know you'll get a safe cab and you don't have to wait out on the street to try and grab one yourself.

But if public transport is the only option you have then make sure you leave the venue straight away after the show is over. I've done that in Newark and Brooklyn. Trains and subways are pretty busy at that time and you'll be fine with lots of nice and friendly Rush fans around you :)

Thank you so much for friendly advice everyone! I'm really encouraged now!

I plan to go merch stand before the show and buy a tourbook and some shirts, so I don't want to carry them all around with me when I go to the bathroom. Also in Japan, putting something like a handkerchief on the seat is really common to show "this is my seat" so I wonder if it applys on the case too.

Anyway, thank you! Now I'm looking forward the show!

You can always buy your book & shirts after the show so you don't have to carry them around. That way you don't have to worry about something spilling on them. And don't worry about leaving anything on the seat, no one will sit there.

I'm attending the Denver show on my own, Tulsa was enough for my wife. I'm going to enjoy some fragrance of Afghanistan with other fans but it will be weird for me sitting "alone" at the show.

If you order from the Backstage Club, you can have it delivered to your home and not worry about it. The only drawback would be the extra expense to have it shipped. Just another option to consider.

I've gone to several shows alone in the past and I'll be attending a few more by myself. It's always more fun with a friend, but once the band is onstage it no longer matters that I'm alone.

I usually end up chatting with the people around me at least a bit. But the Austin show was odd--people just weren't chatty at all and it felt weird.
