Camera Policy?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any idea if there is an official band camera policy this tour? I'll be at Boston and NYC and just bought a new little point and shoot. Every tour the policy is no cameras, but since 2010 or so security has been openly letting them through at every show I've seen.

I've seen about a billion pictures on facebook and twitter. Are they checking for cameras or is everyone sneaking theirs in?

Thanks

Not sure if the band has a policy but in Tampa the ushers made a point to tell us pictures were OK but no recording before we went down to our seats and they were actively policing in our section during the show. It was pretty annoying and pointless. During the middle of a song an usher appears somewhere in you line of sight pulsing a flashlight to get someones attention to get them to stop while probably 20% of the audience is straight up recording and even more are taking pictures.

The worst I've seen of no pictures and no "filming" was a Steven Wilson show last month.. For Rush I've seen more cell phones in the air than Neil can shake a stick at! But very few point and shoots, and the only thing with lenses were out front in the pit...and that only appeared to be the beginning of each set for a song or two.

I don't see the point of recording with a phone. Ridiculous. The bootlegs will be far superior. Pictures, sure. Vid? No current cell phone takes good vid UNLESS you're within 5 rows of the stage.

I don't think people who do it are doing it for bootlegging purposes. I don't think they care that the quality is shit. I think it's more of an "I was there!" kinda thing. 10 years from now they might stumble on the vids while digging through a folder on a computer somewhere. They'll give it a view (probably the first view since the day after the show) and get a smile out of it. That's all they are going for, and I can totally understand that.
