Only a handful of people even noticed the polls, you do realize this? They're 1000's of TRF members. You're reaching a really small number of people...that's reality. But hey, you guys gotta have an outlet right?

What else would you be doing?

Like a drowning man will grab for any means of support. No need to feel so threatened. Other people are allowed to have their own opinions even if they don't agree with yours.

Eagle, the people who started these polls felt threatened. That's why the polls were started in the first place. I don't feel it at all.

I've taken opinion polls, at concerts, with real people, with a camera recording responses. The Terry Brown era is rightfully loved by many here on TRF, however it represents only a piece of the mosaic.

So you're saying we're not "real people?" Seriously?

Good grief. The panoramic shots that I see at a Rush show would represent a huge chunk of that mosaic (the Terry Brown one) in my opinion. Those people at those shows may or may not be members of the TRF but I would venture to guess the majority of them would agree with our findings here. Sure there are some younger folks and some "inexperienced" Rush fans but I would bet that at least 75% of them would prefer the Brown era to the rest. Just my irrational opinion with no facts to back it up... :)

I agree. If you actually go to the concerts you can tell that the first set gets more of a lukewarm response than the second set. If most of these people were huge CA fans then you'd think they'd go nuts when that was being played.

Exactly my experience. Same thing happened at the Snakes & Arrows show I went to. Mostly a snooze fest and then a rock concert suddenly broke out. There is a reason most of us are "older"...

We were there when greatness happened. :D

Certainly were...

Wow. So much for respectful opinions.

I apologize if I'm misunderstanding...but it reads to me as if the past few posts have gone from "this is my experience" (which is entirely valid, no matter what that experience is) to, essentially, "my opinion is the correct one, because I've reached a certain age."

Do my 35 years of Rush fandom not count for as much just because I didn't get to see them live until the Presto tour? Does my opinion not count for as much because I count Rush's newest studio material among the best they've ever done?

Please help me understand.

What? How did you get that out of what was said?

What I really do not understand is why is it TM makes out that loving old school Rush is somehow an embarrassment?

I love VT but I don't kick up a stink every time it gets bashed, and neither does Mick over SA.

Nah buddy, it isn't over CA fandom or what not, but a few weeks ago one member went on a rampage that alienated several of us to the point a few wanted to leave.

You like many CA fans contribute politely and eloquently and respectfully discuss differing opinions.

And for that matter neither does Blue J over CA.

The comments above were what made me feel that way. Like I said, if I'm wrong, tell me...and I'm sorry if I misconstrued it. It just came across as if you're saying "WE (my emphasis) were there when greatness happened." And that because there are other people were not...that that somehow explains what they think the best Rush music is, or the best part of a Rush show is. And that because they weren't "there", when greatness happened, they don't really know what the deal is.

As I said, if I'm being overly sensitive about it, I apologize, and right on...but that was just the way I took it.

Yeah, I'm aware of what has happened in and around these thread, over the past few weeks.

I just thought it was ironic that I read something from folks who I perfectly respect and enjoy posting with and so forth, especially after the conscious attempts we've made to demarcate respectful versus disrespectful discourse, that seemed to go back the other direction.

But I am probably mistaken. It certainly wouldn't be the first time.

True! On all three counts!

We are a very select subset, of a subset, of a subset (and perhaps a few more) of real people.

There was no exclusion intended, it was just the sharing of a thought and a remembrance.

I do think however that if people were there from the beginning they have a more complete view of how the band has progressed over the years. Maybe you have to have been there to understand? I'm not sure how to explain it any better.

And I wasn't saying any part of the show was better, I was saying that the audience reaction to the shows were lukewarm during the newer material.

The concert I attended the second set was actually less energetic from a crowd perspective. 1st set was crazy.

Why is that funny? There are a lot of casual fans that go to concerts.
