There's no comparison. CTTE blows Hemispheres right off the planet. It doesn't even come close to CTTE.

I knew that you prefer Close to the Edge- but I wasn't aware it's by such a wide margin.

I'm sorry if this offends Rush fans, but there is absolutely no comparison when the two albums are put up against each other.

I'm sure Alex and Geddy would agree with me and would vote for CTTE too.

I agree. But I would take Rush over Yes anyway.

Not offended at all, on my part- and I'm sure you're right about Geddy and Alex's opinion.

I would say that even though there are so many comparisons of these two albums both structurally and stylistically, I have always thought of them as being very different from one another.

And I love CTTE- but I still prefer Hemispheres.

In my opinion, Rush's full side epics don't come close to Yes.

Yes, I know...and Topographic Oceans alone has four of them, right? ;)

Maybe it's because of the differences in instrumentation...I've just never readily compared Rush and Yes. Square-peg-in-round-hole syndrome, I think...each with their strengths and weaknesses, both.

Yeah, and I would like to know why Chris Squire isn't as good a bass player as Geddy!   ;)

:eyeroll:

Moaning and groaning, over here...

It's odd, based on their own individual strengths, both albums are 10/10's...but its not easy to express that in this case, the number scale fails to truly explain just how much more superior CTTE is!

I can't rank a perfect album less than perfect. But neither can I say both are equal just because they both have the same score...

It would be like explaining Quadraphenia is a greater album than Revolver, but both still remain absolutely perfect! Win win, whatever you pick.

When I say Rush don't write epics as great as Yes, that's not me saying the epics are not absolutely brilliant! It's just one is gold of a higher carat than the other...but both are valuable.

Wasn't trying to discount anything else, yeah. The Gates of Delirium is a labyrinth of luscious goodies.

Something I always thought about the seventies' Rush is that they were ten years behind other bands.

Had Hemispheres seen the light of day in 1969 - or even 1970 - it would have made such an impact and would be even a greater classic than it is. By the time it came out in 1978, concept albums were already a thing of the past.

I would choose Close To The Edge if a gun were held to my head. Put it up against AFTK and I would have a tougher time deciding. I consider The Yes Album, Fragile, CTTE and Going For The One at least as good if not better than any Rush album ever produced. Just depends on my mood. These albums stack up favorably to 2112, AFTK, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures. I also personally love Tormato but most don't. Those five from Yes and from Rush are pretty equal in my view. Again it depends on my mood...

CTTE gets the nod here. It is otherworldly... :)

Had you said Relayer vs hemispheres. i'd have a different answer. or the yes Album Vs Hemispheres. But i just enjoy hemispheres a tad more then CTTE.

Mick

I think Relayer is good but I wouldn't put it with the top 5 Yes albums in my view. Tales From Turd Infested Oceans is not even worth discussing. Yes did put out some real stinkers in my opinion but the great ones are really great... :)

As shocking as this may seem, I don't even have CTTE in my album collection but I have Turds. Not sure what I was thinking back in the day because I have so much Yes albums and solo stuff from them its unbelievable. I noticed to the other day I was going through my UFO collection and I don't have No Heavy Petting either. Geez I was young. I will get CTTE from Amazon if I ever feel like I have the money to spare. No Yes collection could be close to complete without it... :)

I personally love discussing Rush and Yes my two favorite bands all time. There is alot to compare and contrast and they both went through major stylistic changes especially from the 70' to 80's...

I love Tormato but I guess you weren't asking me. Some great straight up songs and some cool quirky ones...
