I like modern music and older music, Imagine Dragons and Duke Ellington, Muse and Rush, and Queen of course. That being said ,A Farewell To Kings trumps almost everything I've ever listened to.

Also I'm still in high school! :)

Hey there!

Out of curiosity, what do you find appealing about Imagine Dragons? Because a few friends of mine rate them very highly...

Hard to say exactly. They make quality pop-rock-alternative (I hate these titles) music with lyrics that connect and great melodies. Radioactive is an instant classic and a quite geniusly written song; it's one of the best written arena anthems I know (and I'm into Queen). Their first album has a very great sound to it with many well written tracks, and their new album, while it has its various issues, shows a good enough deal of artistic integrity and light experimentation to believe they've still got potential. I tend to see them as the Boston of my generation.

I disagree, but its interesting to hear another point of you. I strongly dislike them, but for someone to praise them this highly, they must be doing something right!

This reminds me of my love for The Killers...so many scoff but I swear they are geniuses!

Might give the debut a spin based on your praise.

They're somewhere between the Killers and Coldplay, especially on the first album. To be honest though, my enjoyment of them probably has a lot more to do with the fact that I'm a high schooler than their level of quality. Nothing Left To Say is epic though...however, less epic than Rush's epics.

It could be really awesome and I just have atrocious taste!

Nonsense! You couldn't possibly have atrocious taste liking AFTK as much as you do. I'd just say, different taste.

I cannot vote in this poll. AFTK and CA are both stellar albums and I don't want to have to decide between them.

I thought about abstaining, too.

But then I didn't. :P

AFTK loses to CA. The amount of epic tracks on CA puts it on top.

The Anarchist

Carnies

Halo Effect

Seven Cities Of Gold

The Wreckers

The Garden

BU2B

Caravan

Wish Them Well

How are any of these more epic than A Farewell To Kings, Xanadu or Cygnus X-1?

As for CA's title track and Headlong Flight, how are they more epic than Xanadu alone?

As for songs like Carnies, The Wreckers, BU2B2 or The Garden, how can they top songs as classic and timeless as Cinderella Man, or Closer To The Heart?

And as a segue to the next track, come on, their is now way that BU2B2 tops Madrigal?

Seriously, there is absolutely NOTHING on CA that outdoes AFTK.

You go well overboard with CA, and when it comes to the greatness of AFTK, so do I!

Ok cupcake boy. Here's my response.

The Anarchist

Carnies

Halo Effect

Seven Cities Of Gold

The Wreckers

The Garden

BU2B--close to being bold

Caravan

Wish Them Well

Headlong Flight

Clockwork Angels

Bolded because they're all time classic tracks.

The rest are merely good to real good. Fantastic songwriting. As I said, AFTK is a great album, Clockwork Angels simply has an overabundance of greatness. It has several mini-epics.

Interesting how you don't address the greatness of Caravan. A sizzling track.

Carnies, Halo Effect, are less than equal to Cinderella Man?

You dismiss The Garden as being inferior to CTTH? Whatever man. These things are self-evident. If you can't see it for yourself, no one can really help you.

Maybe Dr. Cooper can...maybe. If you get on his good side

But if its luster wore off for you somewhat, and that of A Farewell to Kings never has...that's telling, isn't it?

Just be true to what you adore...it's all good.

I love 'em both!

I think Natural Science is one of the only Rush songs that I like better on the album than when they do it in concert.

What does this have to do with AFTK and CA?

Nothing. :)

I have to say, when it comes to CA we have the same favourite songs!

Afraid that I prefer every song on AFTK to CA, and thats that.

My surprise came, not from your favouring CA, but from the use of the word Epic.

Was gobsmacked, because, just in my opinion, not one song comes close to the epic grandeur of AFTK. And as for the shorter songs on AFTK, they carrt a weight, a vibe, that just isn't their on CA, or any other album to be exact.

I am truly stunned anyone can think otherwise, but bear in mind your taking moderate offense to my tone is exactly the sort of feeling others get with the way you post at times.

I don't know if you realise it, but the way I responded to you is exactly how I HATE to come across. But you do. All the time.

And I don't need any gang to come forward to back me up either. And I don't namedrop.

In fact, I was more stunned by your reaction to my post considering, than I was to your opinion on AFTK.

But...the whole purpose of these threads is for us who see CA differently to analyze where exactly CA fits in the overall view of the bands discography. We can disagree, which we all do (tastes are different after all), but I must say I am quite impressed by how strong the devotion towards CA is against these early albums.

Our clashing aside, this is a real eye opener for me. And believe me, there will come a time when only 1 album in two decades gets picked over CA.

Dumb is now cool.

That's good news for me.

We are the Beavis and Butthead of the forum.

(Me and Mick are Tweedledum and Tweedledee, and Blue J is our Mad hatter).

I miss Narps, he's our reliable Rip Van Winkle.

Where is he? Haven't seen him around here for a little while.

Narps said he's taking a break from the forum.

Mick

Oh really? Any particular reason? Usually people do that when someone has pissed them off.

Well...you are not far off the mark.

Ever wondered why I stopped frequently visiting the Rush part of this forum? Well...there you have it!

I didn't notice any particular post but I did notice he seemed a bit irritated at one point. People take things too personally sometimes on this forum.

The problem is not sensitivity, its others downright rudeness. Hence my recent rants. I wish I didn't get so stirred up (I do admire how good you are at maintaining a calm spirit).

Well, after the SavageGrace fiasco I had to learn to distance myself from the comments on here. I think sometimes people say dissenting comments just trying to be funny and it comes across as just stupidity or anger. You have to just try to not take it personally.

Its the almost gang-like camaraderie going on around here...some of us felt isolated from the conversation...(I just rant...I will work on that but my goodness...I am sorry guys).

I see a toy. I throw it out the pram.

But not before pulling the pin, lol!

Haha! Yes...

"Hmmm, he looks like he's having a bad day. Let's light a firecracker and throw it at him!"

:eyeroll:

Someone posted a point recently saying they purposely throw curveballs my way to get a reaction. Not saying who, but yeah...he (or she (hint it is a he)), I felt stupid.

I see the bait.

SNAP! I am dead lol
