We must have started the album at the same time...coz I am near the end of this!

I have come away with a new aspect of this album that I love: the slow build up of Cygnus...its glorious!

I have to play Hems now

Cygnus and Xanadu are two songs that I think encompass the true essence of who the band was back in the early days. They have never truly recaptured that again, which is a shame.

I agree with you.

As much as I love the eighties, listening to AFTK, and now hems, I truly miss Lifeson's sound on the later releases.

No quality drop in the eighties for me, but my goodness I wish Alex could have had more imput. CA wishes it could be Hems or AFTK, but a big reason why it doesn't come close is the magical tone and musical imagination of Lifeson...he really shone his brightest on these two.

Can it be coincidence that AFTK is my favourite, with Hems not far behind?

They exceeded it with Roll the Bones and Presto

Hard to believe the album is 47 years old.

It is timeless.

Hmmm...my math says it's 38 years old.

Nineteen sixty-eight, though, was also an incredible year for music. ;)

I don't think it's coincidence at all. They were at the top of their form then. Once Signals came around, and the guitar was pushed into the background their music became more mainstream.

I am not really getting to grips with turning quarter of a century... :codger:

I agree. And I love their eighties mainstream sound (in all honesty, it was "mainstream" by Rush standards, but their was more going on in their music than any of their eighties peers who turned to poppier music in that decade), but after playing these two back to back, I now understand what many fans mean when they say the eighties was too much for them.

I really am swamped by how great these two albums are, back to back.

If I am blessed enough to turn sixty and yet still FEEL like I'm forty, I will consider it a good day indeed!

Right. It's such a shame that Alex got pushed by the wayside just as he was stretching and at the top of his form musically. If MP's hadn't been such a hit, it's hard to tell what might've happened.

In all honesty, I believe time has stood still since 2001...movies, music and literature has stood still, not advanced (mostly, it has regressed), same as fashion.

The last fourteen years has essentially been one long year...I swear, the difference between the 80's and 90's is impossible to overlook. But last decade, and this decade (we are past the halfway mark), what has changed? The immediate world around us, aside from technology, is EXACTLY the same.

Erm...yes, let's. Hahaha...

I will say, I had the most terrible time with turning twenty. The reasons why are myriad, and not worth recounting right now. But at any rate...both thirty and forty were extremely easy, by comparison.

In 2056 I will have long departed for the heavenly Xanadu, and Segue will be ... :codger: ... would 66 be right, Blue J?

I just died inside...2056 honestly doesn't sound far off at all.
