Sometimes it's hard not to be offended, I suppose. For instance, very recently in another thread, someone wrote that CA is a 'crime against good taste.' I suppose that might imply that if I enjoy the album, I must have bad taste. Hard not to take offense at that, I guess, but, as you say, moving on . . .

Yes, I know what you mean. For saying that I thought the Halo Effect is an awful song I got an earful myself.

I think Halo is the only song I don't care for on the whole record.

Boring song.

Really?...As a bass player, I would have thought you'd love that bass line and bass fills. To each is own. I spent a whole weekend learning the bass part, Not so much the notes but the timing groove Geddy puts on it. You should listen to it again and focus on the bass...maybe it won't be as boring to you.

Seven cities jumped out at me at first listen. Without overanalyzing the lyrics or Geddy's high vocals, etc...it still makes me want to crank the volume (not on headphones :| ) and enjoy the ride. Nice old school/modern Rush feel...far from "boring" filler like Halo Effect.

BTW, I really like Good News First, but I've always accepted I'm mostly alone in feeling that. :)

Halo Effect boring filler? Why you, you... :rage:

Now you know how we feel when you always rag on CA! ;)

We could try being less dogmatic about our opinions and less sensitive to what people on the Internet think about our opinions.

I don't know, it doesn't do anything to me. La Villa Strangiato is definitely my favorite Rush track and if someone told me that it sucks and it's just noise or whatever, I wouldn't care... Do you get pissed at people you know IRL who dislike Rush ?

If we all liked the same songs, this forum would be boring as hell. I know it's all about how we say it but still, it would be great to be able to tell what we think about a song without having to worry about how people are gonna react. I'm offended by people getting offended so easily

Anyway, my point was also that everyone thinks some people have bad taste in music, whether we say it directly or not.

I'm going to go spin the vinyl right now and make a refreshed assessment on the song and the bass parts.

I know I like the song...but can't wrap my mind around it being boring. I do love the simple yet funky bass intro.

Go play that intro...tab it, if you have to....It's fun. My drummer friend and I start with that intro and then just do a improv funk jam.

That's all true, and in general I try to carry on not caring too much what other people think. You like what you like. I (or anyone) might not understand the appeal of what you like, but who cares? I'm also human, though (I think, anyway . . . I might have been replaced), and can't help a l'il reaction here and there when things are stated in a certain way. This notion has been stated and restated over and over, but in a nutshell, there are ways of making criticisms that seem like judgments of the people and there are criticisms stated more tactfully and more obviously like opinions. Anyway, at the end of the day, we shake it off (no, don't start singing...). Who cares, really?

If you're tired of all this tiresome old bloviating, skip on to the next and more interesting post! :)

The other irksome issue (for some people, anyway) are the sweeping statements made without any sort of substantiation. For example (keeping in mind that you say potato and I say potatum and it's allllll good, dudes and dudettes), people are complaining about the way Lee articulates his vocals or whatever. Where, and so what? I ain't hearing it, so either I have beans in my ears or you have beans in your ears or I am a crazed fanboy/fanboi/fanperson/fanatic with stars in his eyes and ears, or you're . . . whatever. Where are these yodels and mushifyings and marblemouthednesses? So his aging facial muscles don't work the same way. Who knew that rock singers were supposed to be so precise in their articulation? Someone should have told Joe Cocker.

Blah! :codger:

Whew! That was fun. Now let the roasting begin, babies!

by the way, I was in no way offended by what anyone said especially NARPS, I just find it entertaining that someone could only like the first 10-15 years of a bands output and I thought my my response about his hitting his head was kind of funny and I am pretty sure that meant for it to not be taken seriously but it was so I defended myself.

If my best freind in real life said I must of hit my head to like the voice of Geddy Lee I would look at her and say, probably.

I've played it. I learn all Rush albums as soon as they come out. To me, Geddy hasn't written any really creative bass parts in the last 20 years. Don't get me wrong, he's my favorite bass player of all time but he hasn't done much of anything that interesting in the last few albums. With the possible exception of Mal Nar.

His approach to making BLT'S.

Seriously Eagle, bass was in the front seat in a profound and impressive way on VT

Wow !....

That's a profound statement. I respectfully disagree.

Is EagleMoon to Geddy...what GeminiRising79 is to Neil?

I would like to think not....

But nothing creative?...in 20 years? It's your opinion. Kudos...for making the statement and still liking and following the band.

I figured I'd get some flack for saying that, but yes, it's my opinion. It doesn't mean I don't think they've made some good music since then, or that I don't LIKE his bass playing. I just don't think he's been as creative with his bass parts in the last few albums. A lot of the flamenco 16th notes throughout the songs and just nothing outstanding.

And btw, I'm not trying to be negative to be negative. It's just a bit of constructive criticism.

If you say so. I don't care for the album at all, and have listened to it the least, even since the remix. I just think the songs are poor.
