What is the best album in Rush's catalogue only taking into consideration the guitar work on it (not bass guitar)? Share your thoughts, differ in your thoughts, battle over your thoughts, then think some more! :)

Impossible. Alex's guitar style has developed astronomically over the span of Rush's career.

I can pick a FEW albums, but not just one. That's just not possible.

2112

Hemispheres

Permanent Waves

Grace Under Pressure

Then everything Counterparts-onward.

I agree with that.

But I did single out my vote- Hemispheres.

Virtuoso playing all over the place, a nice dose of both 12-string acoustic and six-string classical, and as far as the sound of the electric guitar on that record- he achieved an absolutely singular tone that is my favourite out of everything he's done.

Yes...it's Hemispheres.

Folks will think I am nuts but so be it. Since the poll isn't public just think to yourselves "what @sshole voted for the Debut?"... Edited by Narps

I will agree that the riffs on the debut album are just killer- Finding My Way, What You're Doing, Working Man, Before and After, Here Again...and call me crazy, but I just love Take a Friend. I don't know why that one doesn't get noticed more.

CoS...I love the increased complexity of Hemispheres, but I'll take the solos and power of The Necromancer and FoL over Hemispheres (the song) any day. LVS makes this a very close call, but it isn't enough to overpower CoS for me.

Who's the genius who voted for Caress Of Steel?... ;) :D

Edit: My post was supposed to be before yours Led. It would have made more sense that way at least...

This is a good argument, too.

Because it's slightly hokey? :)

Voting for Feedback because of my above post, and because it's tradition.

Well he did think it through at least. Failed the test however... ;)

I'm not sure I'd call this the best guitar album, but my dad and I agreed recently that Snakes and Arrows has some great guitar on it. I might vote for that one...maybe.
