Stormtron
I really like Chain Lightning, Available Light, and...that's pretty much it. Still better than RTB and TFE overall though.
JARG
Presto is a good album to listen to through a decent pair of headphones. The way I enjoy it is by fooling myself into believing it's a Geddy Lee side project.
toadbrother
I pretty much love every Rush album except for PW and HYF!!! But maybe one day they will grow on me!!! ;)I assume you mean Power Windows (PoW) and not Permanment Waves (PeW)? If you really dig Presto then give PoW and HYF a few more listens they should really grow on you. HYF is a great record, it is not all Tai Shan. Other than Tai Shan, HYF is actually a very strong record. I particularly love Prime Mover.
laughedatbytime
Presto is an atmospheric album....almost a classic.Yeah, but why would you want to create the feeling of being in a metal shed?
The Analog Cub
Presto is Rush's worst album. I only rank the debut below it cause the debut isn't even Rush to me, so much as it is a cheap Zeppelin knockoff that none of the 3 players have any identity except Ged and his voice. With Presto, they forgot how to rock entirely. Even on Hold Your Fire they were capable of rocking hard on stuff like Lock And Key. Cheesy melodies and the synths were still poppy. This is Rush's pop rock album, and good lord is it bad. In addition, the sound is awful. No balls to it at all, and that problem wasn't fixed until Rupert Hiney got the boot and Counterparts was recorded. Presto has few redeeming qualities. Chain Lightning and Red Tide have sparse moments of goodness, and The Pass works well on Rio, as does everything else on that live album. The title track has a nice guitar solo.
Tuesday's Gone
I forgot to remind everyone that my favourite Rush song is on this: Chain Lightning. Mystery to me as to why I love it so much, but I LOVE it! Because this song is pure magic, particularly the chorus, the guitar solo and... well everything else actually :) I still don't understand all the hate Tai Shan receives, it's a great song imo. High Water is the only song I don't like on HYF. Edited May 28, 2015 by Tuesday's Gone
J2112YYZ
I've always liked the album very much. Superconductor is really the only song on it that I don't care for. The title track, Chain Lightning, The Pass, Red Tide and Available Light are my favorites. For some reason this album has a magical quality when I listen to it. I can't quite put my finger on it but it's just a feeling I get from it. Yeah, the production is thin but i've heard albums that were produced much worse, so that never bothered me. The album has very good music and lyrics. Vocally, it's one of Geddy's best and most melodic performances. Disk98
Sure. Love ya, Presto! Except for Anagram and Hand Over Fist. The rest is awesome.

For all its UnRushy qualities, it has many of its own charms not found anywhere else in their catalogue. It is a more convincing pop album than RTB. The writing is much stronger, and there is a lot of beauty within these songs.
laughedatbytime
The way I enjoy it is by fooling myself into believing it's a Geddy Lee side project. I'm sure no one wishes that was the case more than Neil and Alex.
TheAccountant
Hello group!!! It's my first post here and I was just wondering your feelings on Presto??? It was my first album and tour for Rush and I love every song!! But it sure does get some hate!!! Anyway glad to be here!! Thanks!!! Welcome to TRF!! I am one of those who love the album.. Did not really care for it when it came out - to thin sounding for me. Actually liked the follow up, RTB, more at the time. Over the years however RTB has fallen way down and one day, many years latter, Presto clicked with me. Like every song on the album now. Plus I like the thin sound (esp. when compared to the smog of a noise that infests the original VT and, to a lesser extent, CA). The thin sound lets me hear and appreciate the vocals and all of the individual instrumental work. Like you, I also saw Rush on the Presto tour and, again like you, it was my first Rush show and I also really enjoyed it.
jnoble
The thin Rupert Hine sound worked better for Presto than it did on RTB. If only RTB had been produced by Peter Collins or someone else....

Rushman14
I really like the album though it features one of my least favorite Rush tunes "Anagram". A little more beef would have helped.
Digital Dad
Anagram, Hand and Red Tide are really underrated imo.
Xanadoood
Came out my senior year in HS , so it will always hold a special place. It's grown on me over the years .
thirteen
I like it a lot more than Clockwork Angels and Snakes & Arrows. Geddy's voice is great on Presto.Only let down is the thin sound on Presto, but I'd much rather the thin-sounding Presto than wall-of-noise CA. The only Presto songs I'm not too keen on are War Paint and Scars. Available light > The Garden.
Rush Fan in Michigan
My buddy and I have been counting down our favorite Rush albums as we get ready for the Chicago show. He loves Presto -- ranking it No. 2. http://metsguyinmichigan.blogspot.com/2015/05/rush-r40-countdown-at-no-2-hold-your.html
madrushian
Presto is a pretty good album. Red tide is probably my favorite off the album just due to the lyrical content. The pass has grown on me over the years since its been played to death at concerts. Now it's a good song with a good message. Also it has a unique opening track. Sometimes I question rushes selection of opening tracks on a album. Such as show don't tell or animate.
