Thinking about octaves, when it comes to vocals...two who stand out in my mind are Tim and Jeff Buckley, both- I'm not sure what Tim's full range was, but Jeff's was three and a half octaves, which is just  crazy! He had such an astonishing voice.

I love jeff's voice...never checked out his dad, where should I start?

Are you two talking about THE Tim Buckley from the sixties??

He was amazing. Not many remember him. Even back then, not many knew of him.

Segue, start out with the album that has Song For Jainie - it might be his debut album. I think the album is simply called Tim Buckley.

For anyone that doesn't like polls, get lost. :beathorse:

Wondered why my ears were burning...

:D

Love the Police...but RUSH, as noted, has the stronger overall catalog.

Weaker, too, actually, depending what albums you choose.

Find an album of his called Happy Sad. Once you hear his voice, you'll instantly be struck by how much Jeff was influenced by him (while Jeffy had so many other influences, too, though, when it came to his music).

Yes, the same one and only Tim Buckley. ;)

I know more '60s music than you may realize...

I sort of raised myself on it! ;)

"Better drummer" was tough. I actually chose Stewart, because I like his style more.

I almost picked him too because there is something fierce, almost savage, in his playing.

But i figure I was in enough trouble so I went with Neil.

Is Jeff his son? He must be quite old already.

I remember very clearly reading in the New York Daily News the day Tim Buckley died. That was decades ago.

Yes, Tim died in 1975, age 28.

Jeff drowned in the Wolf River, in Memphis, Tennessee, during the sessions for his second album, in May of 1997 (the anniversary of it is ext week, actually). He was 30.

:rose: :rose: for both of them.

I adored him in 1968/69.

It's tragic what happened to him. Such talent down the drain thanks to heroin.

The solo in Driven to tears still sounds very p/g like to me. Something alex might pull off.

You can hear the influence every now and then in early eighties Rush.

I have Happy Sad, Lorca, and Sefronia (the last of which was an attempt at crossing over into rock, in 1972- and was not very successful. I think the other two are classics, though).

Well, when Neil backs off and plays it straight, I find him uninteresting, whereas with Stewart, he's still compelling when playing a simple rhythm.
