(Apologies if this is a repost...) Tulsa Concert - Review from Progarchy.com

http://progarchy.com...-time-in-tulsa/

You’d think a band celebrating 40 years of touring and making music might sound a bit like a band that’s been touring and making music for 40 years.

Not so with the seemingly ageless Rush who is arguably more relevant now than at any time of their career.

The power trio hailing from Toronto, Canada that may or may not be calling it quits at the end of their current R40 tour got off to a stellar start on Friday at the BOK Center in Tulsa, OK in front of a mostly sold-out crowd that watched them stroll back through their extensive catalog of albums starting with the present and ending in a makeshift high school gym.

Singer Geddy Lee, at 61 years young, rocked his vocals the entire night and seemed to be having way too much fun on bass as he traded-out guitars on nearly every song. Lee…

I don't think Geddy's voice is a factor any longer. He has found the way to over come his aging vocal situation.

:codger:

Well let's be honest. On the newer material his voice sounds much better than the older tracks, specifically the 70's tracks. Downtuning is required, and he's made adjustments. Is it perfect? Nope. Is it a treat to hear him sing these songs regardless? Yep. Drive on Geddy!!!

Sorry, Tombstone, but I did not see this thread before I posted the St. Paul Pioneer Press review.....

To be honest, I didn't like that particular review. The guy obviously didn't know much at all about the band. He was just going by what his buddy was telling him.

There were several things that made the St. Paul show a unique stop on the tour, such as the inclusion [of] "Natural Science" and the tour debut of "YYZ," which hadn't been heard in concert since 1992 prior to R40.

YYZ hasn't been heard in concert since 1992?

Well at least he was there. I've seen reviews where they didn't even go, or describe the event.

No problem about the posting. I'm trying to create a scrapbook of all the reviews that I can find.

...The double neck guitar and bass came out for “Xanadu.” Yes, I’ll repeat that. The double neck guitar and bass came out! Not to mention they played “Xanadu.” The whole damn song! ...

Not a bad review but since its his first show how credible an authority is he regarding geds voice?

Highly credible. He went by what HE heard. He was there.

Some Rush fans tend to be hyper-crytical. According to this writer he sounded great.

Im a huge Geddy fan, but I listened last night, and Geddy's voice was straining a lot, as well as diving down rather than up on many songs. I'm perfectly fine with that... by the way, but his voice did not sound as strong as ever, thats just wrong. In addition to Neil's tendonitis, its perfectly clear to end on a good note, and play ANY old stuff at ALL, this has to be the end.

Except it probably won't be. They have said they probably will slow down. But if you watched the end of the show it wasn't any different than the last couple years Geddy even said his usual we hope to see you again in the future thing he usually says.

And they showed 1 image after all the videos and it said R40+ they added the plus. Its a hint.

I am 90% sure we will get another studio album and 15 shows minimum.

Perhaps, and I hope its true (that they tour again). Some vocalists can hold it together. One things for sure, many of the songs played last night will be permanently retired - he wont be able to sing them anymore, which, again, is fine with me. A 15 gig tour isn't really doable (shows like this), the finances of touring are such that they wouldn't make the money they'd need to for a show that big on only 15 dates.

Who said it had to be spread it out. It could be only 5 venue tour in different locations of the word New York, Toronto, LA, UK, Maybe The Gorge or Red Rocks they play 3 nights at each venue. Take a week off in between. I think he sounded really good on Xanadu and Jacob's Ladder. Like I feel he nailed those and can play those even next year and the year after.

Thats more or less unsupportable from a financial perspective IF its a show like this. No profit would would be made except, perhaps, if they played football stadii. He didnt sound good on Xanadu, the higher notes he was straining like hell, God love him.

Something odd about the word "stadii" following the word "football"...
