Things will change for all of us after this Tour

we'll have more free time and more money to spend.

that's not all bad.

Just think of the fans who have been to 100 shows or more, and spend thousands on tickets (and travel costs) to multiple shows each Tour. They will be going though major withdrawl symptoms, but their bank accounts may be in better shape! :D

For those who are still holding on to the notion that this is not the end that's ok! In my opinion I truly believe this is it for them. I can't remember what interview or who said it (Geddy?) but I do remember one of them saying they would never announce a farewell tour that they would simply fade away and call it quits. The farewell notion doesn't interest them.

If you have read the R40 tour book I cant imagine any fan not coming to that conclusion. It's there way of saying it without saying it and still giving us a chance to say goodbye.

I will be enjoying show #55 at Jiffy Lube Live on 5/30 with that in mind and waving goodbye at the end. So fortunate to have grown up listening to their music for all these years. I mean gradating from HS same year as MP release doesn't get any better than that. Fond memories for sure!

The first time I ever heard RUSH was when I was 12 in 1980. I was at the school carnival and was on one of those rides where some dirty scrubby looking carnie guy plays his favorite music....He happened to play The Spirit of Radio. Many tunes were played on that ride but I was instantly hooked to that one song. Some time later I heard Tom Sawyer and recognized the voice and bought my first RUSH album. I thought for sure I'd find The Spirit of Radio on MP that day but didn't and was satisfied with MP. After playing the album 100 times I had to find The Spirit of Radio and eventually did. But it was Exit...Stage Left. So I bought that album, my 2nd RUSH album and then heard other songs that I loved....I then bought the other albums in descending order at that time as there was only 8 studio albums and 2 live Albums....I was in hog heaven with so much material(1981)to listen and dissect...I love how their setlist is also in descending order. I know the end is near for them but they will always be a part of my playlist during the year. Usually around their new tour I start playing all of their albums again to get back into it before they come to Tampa...I love all of their music no matter how much they evolved. If I had to pick my top 4 RUSH albums I'd say this:

1. Moving Pictures( my first)

2. Clockwork Angels

3. 2112

4. Permanent Waves

Well, it IS reality like it or not. The band that has meant so much to me over the course of 35+ years will eventually ride off into the sunset and there's nothing I can do about it. I can only take

my own memories and relive them as best as I can. I will die knowing I have seen greatness many times. This band has moved me like no other ever could or will.

Yeah, it's strange. I'm thinking they still might do smaller get togethers and perhaps clinics of some sort. They are all to creative to not continue with releasing some sort of music. But big ass tours I believe are definitley done.

clinics???

Music clinics. Typically done at music schools. They demonstrate techniques in front of students, answering questions etc.

I'd be shocked if Rush ever officially announced their retirement. I could see Neil announcing his personal retirement (as he did privately to Alex and Geddy years ago), but I think the band's status would remain up in the air until one of them is explaining the lyrics of 2112 to St. Peter. We'll get the "as long as Neil is retired, Rush is retired" from the other two.

I don't have a problem with that approach whatsoever.

Got more than my fair share cause i got on the train early on. Saw perm waves at 13. Seen every tour since minus presto and ca. Second row for signals. Blah blah blah...

Everything since vapor trails been one fat tasty bonus.

Does anyone here know for sure and certain how they regard their fans? I'm not looking to read hearsay but something straight from them.

In Beyond The Lighted Stage, Geddy makes it very clear that they appreciate us fans to no end. "God bless 'em", he says, in thanking us for our unending support. His speech during the HoF induction ceremony was dedicated to us fans.

One of these days I will get my hands on that HoF induction ceremony, but in the meantime....

Well, what would you expect Geddy to say? The fans drive us nuts, but it is on account of them we live so well? ;) ;) Of course he's going to say what he said in BTLS.

I was just wondering if anyone had any inside info. :)

When they're done, when KISS is done, when Van Halen is done, and when every rock band is done within the next five years, I'll be done.

f**k this world.

I'll just do what I did when I thought they were done after Neil's problems...listen to other people, collect more Rush bootlegs, and listen to other people!

In fact, I was listening to a Transatlantic concert while I was at the gym today....and have an Enchant bootleg playing in my car at the moment....

I'll actually go back to playing the drums. In a year I'll be retired ( :dweez: ), 50 years old, and itching to do something in between hikes in the mountains, golf and tennis. :)

Yes, it's sad that we may never see them live again after this tour. But I don't believe the band is completely done. Geddy has said even if they don't do any major tours anymore, they still want to record new material. They may go the way of The Beatles and still record stuff but not play live. That is something I can see being possible, so it may be over for them when it comes to playing shows but we can be happy that the band still wants to record.

Come on, they're only in their early 60s, they can give us a couple more new albums ;)

If they do new music I will be (much) more excited for that than seeing them live. And given the high quality songs on CA, they're still capable of greatness...

Getting hammered inthe woods was always fun in high school and college as well. Ah, youth, how awesome. Listening to the wall, Permanent Waves, Ghost in the Machine and a lot of other kick ass music drinking in front of a fire with friends, some who are no longer with us and that music was pretty new back then .
