No Europe Tour?

Recommended Posts

They won't tour stadiums. I guarantee you. :)

Neil is retiring. Accept it. :)

So we'll get you to play drums in Leefson ;)

Edit-

Looking at the bands you rattled off, a Lee/Lifeson continuation, even under a different name, would be more faithful to original Rush than most classic rock bands touring today, even the legendary ones you mentioned (yes, I mean the E Street Band, AC/DC, among others). I am all for these bands continuing. But they would certainly retire the name Rush without Neil.

Some of us believe, based on band's comments, that they are retiring as a touring band, not as a band. Some believe all 3 have to turn the key for major decisions. Some believe Ged is the power broker, not Neil (who could have easily said due to injury I am retired, instead of the wishy washy press release). He is the new guy, after all.

Barring Neil tendinitis or other undisclosed injury, 2 of 3 members have publicly said optimistically specific comments, to keep hope alive, however thin.

Unless you have specific news from the source?

Those same 2 of 3 members have also said realistically specific comments.

It's great you want to keep hope alive. But your hope is pretty grand if you're thinking they're capable of filling stadiums. :)

I don't see how anyone can't see the forest for the trees given all the evidence to date.

So VS, there is some murkiness. Looking at the show overall, no spoilers here of course, I immediately thought this is it. Very well could be. It would not that difficult for that to be said by the band. But to mention specific possibilities, then hang it up is almost cruel.

Regarding the Rush popularity issue, like you, I have been to tons of big time shows, McCartney, GnR with Metallica way back when, Stones. These Rush shows, in NY, NJ (thankfully have tix for those), Boston, Philly are among the toughest tix I recall. Very few on secondary market, compared to other bands. The brokers are getting big money for this tour.

No doubt the brokers are making money on the tour. But it's a quality per seat capital profit. Not a quantity driven profit.

The secondary market is making its money off Rush fans that want up front quality seats. Not a mass casual fan drive to see Rush one last time. From what I have garnered, anyway.

The two LA shows are nearly locked up in terms of access, what's left is all resale, and anything remotely close to the stage is going for a grand or more.

This is a good place to ask again a question I asked elsewhere and never, to my knowledge, received a reply.

How much does it cost Rush to tour? They have many employees that must be paid and many other expenses including their airplane.

How much do they have to make at any given venue in order for the three of them to make a profit?

It's a good question, for which I don't have an exact answer (or even a good guess)...but their overhead is significant, to be sure.

Have to give it up to the whole road crew, and all the drivers, for all the rigging and the stages that we've gotten to enjoy seeing over the years- they are the ones who have made it possible for the band to perform show after show after show for us.

I remember seeing a Youtube interview with Neil saying that they liked having the string section along on the CA tour because it gave them other musicians to talk to, but it meant they didn't even break even until the tour was half way over. That was a lot of extra people to feed and house though. My kids were surprised and kind of pleased at Rush's integrity to not have this be the Summer Bud Lime A Rita tour or whatever sponsor a lot of groups have!

I asked because it must cost them A LOT. Which is why when people clamor for a European tour, they never seem to take into consideration the cost involved in said tour, and that Rush just can't pop over there to play a few cities.

I know that it's expensive for them to come over to Europe. So I'm hoping that if there's enough interest from promotors here in the EU that they'll consider coming over. If they're not going to break even - at least - on a Euro tour then yes they'd better not do one :)

Well, perhaps it is pointless hoping for some sort of European/U.K. leg to this tour, but I like to keep my fingers crossed just in case.

Thank god we live in the age of YouTube though; and then there's the DVD/Blu-ray that will no doubt be coming out at some point. Better than nothing! ;)

I think this is it people - get your tickets while you can. If you aren't afraid of spoilers, read the language in the tour book. Not written like there is more to come.

It is it. Some folks hereabouts are having a tough time facing it.

LOL, one would think the mere inclusions of ____, __________, and _______ would confirm that yes, this is Rush's last love letter to the fans.

Sigh, you're right. I forgot. There are some brilliant folks visiting a Rush fan site while the tour's progressing and still expect to not be appraised of songs being played. <gratuitous eye roll> Please do edit your own post (your quote of my post) so that virgin eyes need not be offended. :)
