I didn't mean to attract so much attention, in not being familiar with the fact that people with Asperger's Syndrome refer to themselves that way. I'm very much aware of what it is, and how it shows up in people (mainly in children, though)...and that the degrees of severity of it vary greatly.

Neil seems to be standoffish...

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Neil was an Aspie actually

That's not a very popular thought around here. There have been some pretty heated debates in the past about it by a few members who shall remain nameless. Neil seems to be plenty friendly and outgoing with the people he knows and feels comfortable with. It's just when the "fan thing" comes up that he has issues. He just wants to be an everyday guy.

What is an Aspie?

I'm finding out that I am less and less hip, every day...

:codger:

Wait I can shorten the type of personality I am???

Ok, I guess I am an Assho :LMAO:

Best I Can is a lot better with Neil's drum work on it.

In my opinion.

Ok, I gotta agree with you there...never knew Rutsey performed that one...Neil's drums add punch

Aspergers is not a disease, it's not even a disorder, it's just that some people's brains are literally wired differently. I'm sure there have been millions of people that went undiagnosed, just thinking they were weird, awkward, got bullied and teased, etc because they could not fit in socially, etc and struggled not knowing there were others like them and a valid reason (not a negative thing, just a concrete reason) some people might have always truly felt 'different' all their lives. People with Aspergers aren't obvious to others in whats going on with them, a lot of times its a purely internal awareness that they feel excluded in ways they cant seem to explain from the rest of the human race.

Knowing you are OK and there are others out there you could possibly relate to or at least have acore thing in common with is very relieving and validating.

The most common feeling when a person discovers they have Aspergers: 'Well that explains a lot!" (Sometimes everything!) because people are born with it and have it all their lives and a lot of times never find out.

Also: a lot of people with Aspergers tend to have narrow focuses of what they are into... With some people it changes on a regular basis, like every three months they have a new obsession level interest, with others its a looooong term interest or hobby. Aspergers people tend to be highly logical and exacting about details, and this includes musical performance, if one has an aptitude for it. If someone with Aspergers had a long term interest in music, they would not necessarily need the natural born talent because with that level of intense interest, just the time taken to practice would override the need, but I honestly think all three of these guys are terribly, naturally gifted in their chosen instruments, and the world is a better place because they were driven to become good at what they did and came together as a unit.

Seriously, no matter what the circumstances had to be in order to have them come together, I'm very glad they did.

I don't care if he has Aspergers or not, but if he did it wouldn't be a bad thing, it would just make sense.

Yeah, completely...listen to the beginning of ot on the Secord version, and then the studio version on Fly By Night. Totally different. And Neil wins. ;)

I learned something. It's good to ask questions- that's what I was always taught.

I really don't think its surprising that there is such chemistry between Ged and Alex. These weren't two musicians that met and formed a band, they were kids that met and learned their instruments together. There is a huge difference there. You almost become a single entity as you are so accustomed to the other person that your playing is instinctive rather than being forced or learned. Add another 40 years to that and you have perfection.

As far as Neil goes, the band already had written some pretty decent tunes before he came along. Rutsy was no slouch on drums either. But Neil's drumming took the musicianship to another level. His lyrics in the 70s and 80s definitely hit the sweet spot of teenage males at the time. They were the perfect package. But if Neil hadn't come along I could still have seen them having the same success as a band like Triumph. Remember, Rutsy only had one album under his belt. It took three more tries with Neil before they struck gold. Who knows what would have happened if John had done three more records and continued to develop as a drummer and a songwriter?
