You all make it seem so great, and I feel a bit bad that I'm missing out on something. But then I get close to it and I just get turned off for some reason.

if you don't like the smell,

Then forget about it!

Maybe I like the cold can of Coke because it doesn't really smell like anything.

My wife and I argue about smells sometime. She'll say, "don't you smell that? It's disgusting," and I'll say, "I don't smell anything"; I'll say, "it stinks in here" and she'll reply, "you're imagining it." Selective nose-blindness, I guess.

Dunkin Dark Roast. Only dark roast. And black, nothing in it.

I prefer pop over coffee any day, but I LOVE black coffee.

Same here. Darker the roast, the more flavorful the coffee. Milk and sugar takes away from that awesome taste.

Barista the other day made me a quad shot iced latte (I always get Americanos or just shots over ice). She was going to remake it but I told her as long as it had the four shots, I didn't care. And so I drank the latte. It was gross with milk! It didn't have a nice strong coffee taste.

I only like the smell of coffee, if only coffee tasted like that but it tastes only of bitter ashes, the taste of death in fact! And it leaves a horrible after-taste as well! And coffee drinkers end up with that putrid, fetid, rotten coffee breath, so in the end it tastes like death and it smells like death! :blaze:

Say no to coffee death! :blaze:

That reminds me.

Nothing like the old percolated coffee. I don't even know if they still make percolators. Farberware used to.

For Lorraine-

So...a few days into the Starbucks french roast and I must say, it's great to be back on it! So dark and oily and beautiful...

Just picked up a french roast from the local roaster I favor. First time getting it, but will try it out tomorrow. It is dark and oily.... looking forward to trying it.

Ok, just made it and it was just fine. Tastes a little like the dark roast Guatemalan coffee we get.

The place I get our coffee is a bulk place, you put a bag under and dump in the beans. Generic bags, so you have to write the variety on the bag. On the French Roast bag... I wrote "Freedom Roast" just for laughs.

We buy whole beans, keep them in the freezer and grind just enough for 2 cups (one each for my wife and I) every morning.

Why the freezer? Oils no like the freezer. Plus, the beans soak up freezer odors. I have also read that bulk coffee is not so good, as it is exposed to light and air. Edited by goose

I'm also a big fan of seeing the shiny oil on the beans. I keep my beans room temperature. Freshness (or lack thereof) is not an issue, as I go through a pound of beans in about a week and a half.

just because of this...

Air, heat and light are the three main factors that will affect the freshness of coffee, so keeping it away from all three as much as possible is key. Storing coffee in an airtight container in the freezer is the most ideal scenario, but an airtight container, on your kitchen counter will also keep coffee fresh for quite some time. Of course, coffee will never really expire, but as time goes on, if not stored correctly can lose the great taste you are hoping for.

Like Blue J said though, if you go thru it quick enough, it really doesn't matter. My wife and I don't drink much... I guess I could just buy less and keep it in an airtight container in the pantry.

If the bulk coffee you're buying was roasted in the last couple days, I don't think it matters much.

That's how we do it. From airtight bag to sealed ceramic canister in the pantry.

Peets, Gevalia, Seattle's Best

The darker and stronger the better

Buy it ground at the grocery store. Keep it in canisters on the kitchen counter

Does anyone have a recommendation for a coffee with a kick??

I am on the road often, I drink Dunkin' Starbucks, and alot of local shops in various states, but nothing picks me up.

Wakes me up per say. The caffeine does little to me. I was wondering if someone knows a brand, a technique, a method to get that boost.

At home about half the time working, and make my own. Open to flavors, styles anything. Love coffee, but my 2-3 cups don't do much for me.

And NO I'm not talking booze, looking for any legit methods- Booze is a rarity for me now.

Try a "red eye." It's drip coffee with a shot of espresso. I like the stronger taste the espresso gives to the coffee too. I order this when I drink hot coffee.

We have a coffee bar at work. Every morning, I put a double shot of espresso in my French Roast. It makes it very strong without being overly bitter. I love it.
